So, I started following some game developers on Twitter for various reasons, the most recent being one of the people behind the Firaxis reboot of the XCOM series due to him responding to me being all hyped about how it's coming out soon. It's kind of a neat little way to get some insight into the game industry... though a lot of it is marketing/publicity. I have learned some things though, and I will share at least one of them with you!
1. Hideo Kojima has not one, but two Twitter accounts. One he posts in English and the other in Japanese. As far as I can tell, both of them are predominantly to taunt people with lovingly taken photos of whatever delicious food he happens to be getting ready to eat at the time. Seriously, some of those photos are so nice I almost take leave of my senses and start trying to lick my monitor or take a bite out of my cell phone.
Eh, one more. 2: There's been a lot of... well, I'll be generous and call it 'controversy' instead of 'gamers being dumb gamers' about the fact that Bayonetta 2 will only be on the Wii U. Personally, I never played the original and don't really care that the sequel is going to be exclusive to a different console than the original was. Yeah, sucks for the people who don't want a Wii U, but the sequel would never have been made otherwise. I started following a Platinum Games developer who posts in both English and Japanese and is surprisingly active in responding to people.
He's actually been responding to a lot of people complaining at him (for some reason I don't understand) about it with way more patience than I could ever muster. Some of the tweets read with a thin, underlying sense of 'I really wish I could be more rude to you' at times, but he has yet to actually give in to that. It makes me sad I can't read Japanese because I'm always curious about what those conversations are about.
Anyways, aside from twitter nonsense, my computer is kind of going to shit at an alarming rate. Might be time to pick up a new one soon. I'm losing vital OS functionality and haven't had any luck fixing it as of yet... most other programs still work fine though. For now.
I've also been having way more fun just exploring the world of Guild Wars 2 than I have actually killing things, which is kind of an odd thing for me in an MMO. You get rewarded with experience and occasionally hidden chests of loot for exploring, so it's worthwhile that way too. I've also been enjoying crafting, even though nothing I can make is of any sort of value outside of larger bags. Such is life. My engineer has joined the Order of Whispers in the game's plot, essentially becoming a spy. A spy who can airdrop a box full of turrets onto someone's head.
I might not be a good spy.
You get the option between joining the spy group, the Priory (researchers), or the Vigil (soldiers), and they lead you through 3 different plot threads for the main story of the game. Each character can only choose one, and even within the Whispers plot there's been another few mutually exclusive choices on what way to take things. It's kind of neat, really.
