Alo-ha, mapuakahihilani! (beautiful flower) Once you get used to saying that word, you'll be hoplessly addicted. It just rolls around in your mouth like creme brulee. How wonderful, to have a single word that sums up the whole concept of 'Hawaii' so perfectly. Have you ever been there?
So, are you making anything in particular, or just learning textiles? What are your favorite beads? My weakness is shells, stones, and Chzech glass seeds, - but blue goldstone is my absolute favorite, with the red a close second.
There's a hugs, amazing store in Glendale that I avoid like the plague. It's about the size of the clothing department in a Mall-Wart, and there's nothing but rows of pegboard, strung with hundreds of strands of different beads, and a glass counter with hundreds of amazing little charms.
Beads and fabric - my favorite fetish, now that I've given up D/s. Much more fun, I must admit.
I just made my first fitted shirt the other day - I'm thrilled. I'm planning to re-do it in a more sensible fabric, and embellish it with feathers, sewn across the chest in a curve, like a low breastplate. Black, shiny feathers on black satin, I think. I'm working out how to do that logistically - I think I have to sew the feathers to a strip of fabric, then sew that to the shirt, then put a ribbon at the top to cover the quills. Still working on it...
Ahem...
