Summary: The Warblers are exchanging gifts...

“What are you doing?” Blaine asked after he watched Wes scan Lyricsfreak for the fourth time in fifteen minutes.

“Working on David’s Christmas present,” Wes said without looking away from the computer.

Blaine closed his book and sat up abruptly. “I thought we weren’t doing presents this year. Didn’t we say we wouldn’t since things were tight for some of the guys?”

Wes turned in his desk chair and fixed Blaine with a look that said, “Don’t be a moron.” “We said we weren’t going to buy presents, not that we weren’t exchanging them. C’mon Blaine, you were there when we pulled names.”

“But then we said no spending...I’m behind the curve on this one aren’t I?”

“Yep.” Wes said before turning back to the computer.

Blaine slumped back against his headboard and thought frantically. “What am I going to do? I’m no good at this stuff! I suck at buying presents, let alone making them!” He moaned dramatically before continuing, “And I got Kurt’s name too!”

“And we went to some effort to make sure you got his name,” Wes commented.

“He deserves something fantastic!”

“First,” Wes said, “quit panicking. Our newest Warbler will love anything because its from you. That boy’s got a whole constellation of stars in his eyes when you look at him.” He clicked on another song and immediately dismissed it. “Why not make him a CD? You could tell him how you feel about him and fill the no money spent requirement as well.”

Blaine saw potential in that idea until he focused on what Wes was doing. “Can’t. That’s what you’re getting David.”

Wes shrugged, “So? It’s different. See, David’s really into New Wave right? But it’s all romance or social change with that genre. Trying to find songs that say you’re my heterosexual life partner without completely switching teams is hard.”

Even though his back was turned Wes knew Blaine’s face was scrunched in confusion. “So you’re saying its easy for me and that’s why it’s different? Sounds like a cop out.”

Wes continued looking through lyrics from bands such as Adam and the Ants and the Talking Heads. After a few minutes he said, “I don’t see how it’s a cop out. Music is personal and something you guys share. You have the same taste in music so its more about the message. Me? I’m not a fan of this synth heavy, experiemental psuedo punk stuff David likes. But I’m putting the effort into finding what he likes instead. Tonya gave me a couple of songs, but I don’t know...some of these lyrics...”

Blaine shook his head. “Sometimes you’re way too uptight, Wes. If David’s girlfriend thinks they work she’s probably right.”

Wes grumbled and glared over his shoulder at Blaine. “I am not too uptight. I just want to make sure this mix sends the right message.”

“The message being you’ll love him forever in a totally platonic non-gay way, right?”

“Exactly.”

Blaine smirked and picked up his book again. “Somehow I don’t think David’s going to have a problem figuring that out.”

Wes fiddled with the perfectly wrapped cd before heading into the choir room. He still wasn’t sure he’d chosen the best songs, but after reading lyric after lyric and listening to synth music for three days he knew that even if the songs weren’t perfect David would get the message. Still, Wes was a bit of a perfectionist. He wanted his gift to be exceptional, so he’d taken Tonya’s advice and hoped for the best.

A santa hat was dropped on his head as soon as he crossed the threshold. “Merry Christmas!”

“Season greetings!” Tanner called from the other side of the room. “It’s Seasons Greetings so we can be all inclusive.”

Several wadded up napkins were thrown at the senior but he laughed and threw them back at random people. Wes joined in the impromptu napkin fight instead of putting his gift on the table with all the others. When he made his way to the table he chuckled. There were several cd shaped presents on the table.

“Presents! Presents!” David bellowed as he bounced around the room, “Want presents!”

“Who gave him sugar already?” Wes asked looking around the room.

Kurt reluctantly raised his hand. “I shared my chocolate orange with him so I wouldn’t eat it all.”

Blaine looked insulted, “You slapped my hands away when I tried to take a slice!”

David grinned and threw an arm around Kurt’s shoulder, “He loves me.”

“You were convenient. I eat all that and it goes straight to the hips.”

David wailed and moved to Wes’ side. “I feel so cheap!”

“As you should!” Blaine said with a pout. “I love chocolate oranges.”

Kurt pat his arm and smiled apologetically, before he could say anything David tugged on Wes’ arm. “Presents now?”

Wes glanced at Mike, the other council leader, who nodded. “OK, David, but you’re playing the elf.” He took the Santa hat off his head and passed it to David, smiling as the hyper boy immediately put it on.

Once everyone was settled around the room David started passing out gifts. He grinned when he saw the CD from Wes. “Bromance...nice title, Bro.”

Wes was too busy laughing at his own CD. “Get Your Game On...awesome!”

They bumped fists then looked expectantly towards Kurt and Blaine. Blaine looked over the brightly wrapped gift in his hands then gave Kurt what Wes & David dubbed his “completely besotted” smile before ripping through the paper and opening the box. He pulled out a long maroon and gold scarf and gasped. “You...for me?”

Kurt nodded nervously. “I know how much you enjoy the books and you’re certainly a Gryffindor if ever there was one.”

“You made it?” Kurt nodded and Blaine leaned forward hugging him tightly. “I love it. Thank you.” He swallowed then said, “Your turn.”

Kurt picked up the small present and took his time unwrapping it. Inside was an MP3 player, and he looked at Blaine curiously. “I thought we weren’t buying things.”

“I didn’t. That’s my old one.” He clutched his scarf tightly as he waited for Kurt to start looking through the songs.

“Disney songs...Rent...Katy Perry...I don’t think I know this one...Not Alone...Don’t You? Who sings those?”

Blaine swallowed nervously, “Um...me, I wrote them, the rest...they’re covers. Obviously.”

“You?”

David smacked Wes’ shoulder before hanging on him as they watched Kurt scramble listen to the song. The over the moon expression on Kurt’s face told the two of them everything they needed to know. Kurt finally got the message. Blaine and Kurt left the party soon after that. Wes and David considered following them, but decided their Christmas present to the new couple would be one night free of teasing. They had their own CDs to listen to after all.

warbler's winter gift exchange, mix!
