If you haven't figured out my stance on gay rights yet, then you're not paying attention. :-)
Of course, I don't really expect that the laws will ever be changed to require all couples who wish to be legally bound, whether they're heterosexual, homosexual, or what, to get Civil Union paperwork prepared and witnessed by a JoP, and take this nebulously religious thing "Marriage" completely out of the equation.
It seems to me like a solution that neatly puts to rest all complaints of either prejudice/discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation on the part of the government, and requiring religious entities to recognize unions they don't support. But I suspect "marriage" is too well-engrained into modern society to make that work. More's the pity.
