congrats, and happy trails!

reads like it's a real winner, but then i know it'll take a good long day trek to get a true feel for the way it rides. hopefully, that will = well, and be a self-fulfilling encouragement to ride that much more. i'm having trouble envisioning the shifters, though; i've got trigger shifters on my trek 7200 which utilize the thumb & index finger, a huge improvement compared to my previous bike which had grip-shifters (i.e., no more sudden downshifts as i would move from seated to upright pedaling - always a dangerous occurrence). too bad there was no photo or info on those. i find the disc brakes intriguing, and would love to hear down the road how well they work for you. as for the difference in weight - i sort of get forgetful about that, as i have a handlebar pack & rear trunk with which i typically carry my cable, work clothes, lunch, camera, books & magazines back & forth; but when the occasion arises to strip it down, i realize that i regularly nearly double the weight of the bike with my "essentials".

my bike is no longer anywhere near new, and as i near 4k miles on it, the one upgrade (from my previous bike) that i'm absolutely amazed by is the composite wheels, which are - at least to my non-gearhead eyes - still damn near perfectly true. now, though, the laundry list of component replacement is coming due, but considering the overall ride and condition of the bike, it's well worth getting done for another load of mileage (and a hell of a lot cheaper still than the next - unnecessary - upgrade/replacement). i'm currently hoping to hold out until the end of the current season; we'll see what my chain thinks . . .
