Avanti Restaurants 3) Breakfast, lunch, dinner, or late-night?
Lunch, dinner and late night. Weeknights until 10:30, Thursday until 2am and Friday and Saturday they're open until 3:30 with a special midnight to 3AM menu though the full dinner menu is available on request. We found a review of them while looking for somewhere not Ihop/Dennys/Steak and Shake for food at 2am.
4) What did you order?
I had stuffed jumbo shrimp stuffed with crabmeat and some sort of bread in a white sauce and my friend had the veal scallopini. Both of our dinners off of the dinner menu were served with steamed asparagus and angel hair pasta in red sauce. My sister had a steak off of the midnight menu with french fries. We split an apetizer of garlic bread and creme brulee for dessert.
5) What was the quality of the food?
I thought it was fabulous. My friend said the veal was a little chewier than she's used to and the shrimp were a bit firm too but in the way large shrimp often are not in an over cooked way. My sister said that her steak was fabulous and the fries were suprisingly good too for this type of restaurant. The creme brulee was wonderful, served in a pastry shell instead of a dish and had strawberries baked into it.
6) Was the service good?
The service was great. They offer free valet which is nice since it's downtown. The service ended up being a bit harried since we got there right before the bars in the area stopped serving so it was a little busy but he still took the time to check in on us. The biggest thing is that my sister has a food allergy so he thought to precheck everything for that. He made sure the bread was safe and then when he brought out the food he let her know that both my and my friends dish had it so she probably shouldn't sample anything and made recommendations for a safe dessert. The only bad thing was that my friend ordered a salad which he forgot about but she wasn't charged for it and as she pointed out the entree ended up being way more than enough food. And he checked both of our ID's for our credit cards which is a huge plus in my book.
7) How about the atmosphere?
The decor implied that in any other circumstance it would be quiet and elegant but it was a little busy and noisy and a large number of the people there were more than a little tipsy. I probably would make it a point to either go earlier or later next time. It's considerably smaller than it looks in the pictures since 2 walls have mirrors.
8) Cost?
A little on the pricy side but not too bad. I spent $50 (minus tip) for dinner for me and my sister including the appetizer and desert which is about what I would have spent if we had gone to say the Olive Garden.
9) Vegetarian/vegan selections?
Not so much. Plenty of seafood and some cheese lasagna and salads but they do tend to the meat. Their menu's on the site though.
10) Alcohol/wine list?
It looked like it would be nice but nobody in my party drinks.
