Molly Ringwald
Yes, that Molly Ringwald. wrote a novel recently and is out on a short book tour. The tour brought her into Boston this past Tuesday night to Brookline Booksmith. The previous day she asked her Twitter followers if anyone could recommend good vintage clothing stores and where they were located. Of course, Monday I closed at work and then went home straight to bed and didn't look at Twitter until Tuesday 4:30PM. I recommended that she check out Oona's in Harvard Square and Cafe Society in Brookline if she had any time availible.
This was our convo when I got to the table to get my book signed:
Molly: Hi! I like your style.
Me: Thank you! Did you have a chance to check out any vintage stores today?
Molly: No, I went around Boston signing books at other bookstores. Were you the one who wrote on my Twitter wall about Oona's?
Me: Yes! Also Cafe Society in Brookline.
Molly: Those were the two that I had wanted to go to after I researched stores in Boston. Are they any good?
Me: Yes. You would really like Cafe Society, they have lots of cocktail dresses from the '40's, '50's and '60's.
Molly: Well, I like that!
Me: If you ever come back, you should go check those places out! They're both really good!
Molly: If I go I'll tell them you sent me.
If you didn't know this already, she was a huge influence on me in high school. I started dying my hair red because of her. I started shopping at vintage stores because of Pretty in Pink. I discovered the Smiths because of that same movie. Heck, I even had a Blane McDonough in my life. (But no Duckie, sadly.) We are almost the exact same age, I think I'm 6 weeks older than she is. I was so excited afterwards, I practically skipped down the street to the ice cream shop where I texted half of my Boston friends and my family, LOL!
Molly Ringwald told me she likes my style. I WIN AT LIFE.
