I was lucky enough to have seen this movie in the theater when it was released. It was one of the those things that articulated what I felt at the time: that something was terribly wrong but I didn't know exactly what. I would credit this movie, Heathers, the music of Nirvana, Consolidated, NIN, and the work of Henry Rollins (books and spoken word), of shaping my early twenties.
