The rundown of my first week

Aug 08, 2009 09:13

So hard to believe that I made it through to the end of the end of the week! I was talking to Mum this morning and she said Well you've only got 40 years to go, and I said Yeah but with one week down! It just seems so insignificant in the grand scheme of things but my first week! Over!

The end of the week was much better than the start of the week and I was so happy for that. A few of my classes are filled with terrors but the ones that are made of good kids are my saving grace. Thursday and Friday I didn't have any supervisions which may have had a little bit of an effect on the greatness factor of my day but they were also my busiest days so I hope that says something about my organisation skills! It really helps that I'm teaching all of the same content with all classes though. I'm slowly getting my confidence in the classroom and here there is great support with behaviour management so if I get a trouble kid I can send him to the house dean and he gets a serve. I might also start organising how to issue detentions but it's just so hard to remember which form goes with what because every action has a form that needs to be filled in to justify it. Crazy.

The trivia night last night was mostly fun, my team did REALLY bad though and it was so funny to see how badly teachers cheat! Using Google on mobile phones, phoning parents and people at home, swapping answers with other teams... It was all rigged in the end I think because two teams of students won and there were questions on there that were pretty hard. I got the answers for "How many ships in the first fleet?" and "What thing does Lexicology study?" - thanks Mr Sneddon! At least linguistics came in handy!

Went out to a place called the Ginger Mule afterwards for a few drinks and that was pretty fun. I didn't get too pissed so I'm feeling alright this morning. In a few hours I'm getting picked up by an Art teacher Nikki and her cousin Mitchell to head over to the Northside and go shopping and see a movie. Tonight I think we're meeting up with Renee again (my welcome party as she was called last night) and having Indian at a recommended restaurant in town. Hopefully after a relatively social weekend I will be able to chat with more people at school next week. Mostly at lunch times I just sit at my desk and do work, which isn't too bad because I do have a lot of planning to do anyway.

This entry feels a bit disjointed so I might stop it here. I'm a bit involved in High School Musical on TV haha.
