It was pretty amazing. I don't know if anyone was following my twitter or facebook feeds, but we got standing ovations. It an amazing experience to be hit with a loud boisterous, happy full house at Radio City Music Hall cheering for something they love. The Friday night crowd was more excitable than the Saturday night crowd, but they all ended up on their feet. So, for that, it was an amazing show. To be honest the choir, me included, could have used more rehearsal. It was hard to hear, and several of us were missing entrances and flubbing some notes. But I'm not sure anyone really noticed, other than us. Granted, the orchestra had the most work, if they hadn't been prepared, it would have been really bad. But they were spot on.
You have to admit these LoTR concerts are a novel way to employ an orchestra. When was the last time you've seen an live orchestra and choirs playing and singing live to a movie? The silent movie era? I can't think of any. It's a good melding of different media, and a way perhaps to introduce people to classical music, too.
