Ian wakes up to a bouquet of his favourite flowers, expertly arranged by, he suspects, someone who isn’t Patrick. There is breakfast in bed, tea and toast, liberally spread with butter and marmalade.
There are gifts. A weekend away in Cornwall, a new watch after Ian dropped his old timepiece in the bath, a new mobile as the last one unaccountable vanished somewhere in Ian’s dressing room after late night shenanigans.
The presents are welcomed of course but more importantly there is Patrick, warm and naked, pressed against his skin, his body opening up to receive his lover’s cock deep inside him. There are murmured words, a symphony of noises, gasps and even the odd chuckle.
After, there are friends, a houseful of friends descending on them, wanting to wish Ian well on this milestone birthday. There is a meal, cooked by them both, served amidst laughter and tall stories of the theatre. There are more presents, there is music and even more mirth and merriment.
Eventually the guests disperse leaving Ian and Patrick alone once more, sitting out on the deck watching the river wending its way down to the sea while they sit in companionable silence, their fingers entwined.
Then as the late Bank Holiday thunderstorm breaks over the city, Ian and Patrick disappear indoors, retire to bed to discuss the day and make love, slowly, thoroughly and with great passion. Finally entwined in each other’s arms, they fall silent once more as sleep comes and the day is done.
