Art show winner!

I received this email on Thursday:

Donna,

I'm not sure you know your book was sold from our People's Choice exhibit?

And it was sold to a PEM guest curator from Virginia who was here to install the Fabrege Revealed exhibit! !

AND you are tied for 1st Place in our voting !!!

As a matter of fact, I didn't know this had happened! So I went over to the Salem Arts Association to see my altered book project, and to get a photo for LJ.

It was fun to see my name in print! "People's Choice" means that visitors to the gallery were encouraged to vote for their favorites, and the votes were counted at the end of June.

I started with a Nancy Drew book from the 1950s called The Hidden Window Mystery. I removed the four illustrations, created two "hidden windows" in the book, and then collaged the illustrations back into the windows. It was a fun project, and I'm generally pleased how it came out. I couldn't find a stand for it that held it open at the angle I wanted, so I created two plastic "rubber bands" to hold the pages closed, and just stood it on end. I'm surprised so many people liked it, because I was dissatisfied with this solution, but never underestimate the power of Nancy Drew and nostalgia.

It was the inspiration I needed to get back to making art, though. I've been pondering several new projects, and look forward to making more art soon.
