On things about to end:

Jul 20, 2007 16:15

Lately I've been reading about an interesting device called the
Large Hadron Collider.

Yes, I read the second word that way too, but it's spelled Hadron, as in "I Hadron help me fight Voldemort until he died in the most gruesome way imaginable."

The thing that interests me about the LHC is that (like the early experiments in Nuclear science) there is a chance that it might end the world. (Nuclear power obviously did not.) In fact, it could potentially destroy the entire universe.
Says Wikipedia,
"The Large Hadron Collider is expected to create tiny black holes within the Earth . On the face of it this is a spectacularly stupid thing to do,"
Gee, it's a good thing hadron is more than skin deep. (BTW, note that it's actually supposed to do that.

I thought that I should have a conversation with science about this one as science hasn't been the most trustworthy of customers in the past. Here's how it went.
Me (or is it 'I'?): "Science, are you building a Large Hadron Collider?"
Science: "Maybe... Yes, yes. I'm building a Large Hadron Collider."
Me: "Do you remember what happened last time you built a LHC?"
Science: "I've... never built a LHC before."
Me: "Well maybe not in any of the universes that STILL EXIST!"
Science: "That's crazy!"
Me: "Oh, yeah? We'll see who's laughing when the universe ceases to exist. NO ONE that's who."

(And now for a series of completely different things.)

Here's a series I thought for sure was at an end. I suppose that shows what I know. (Although, I'm sure Kimmy has already heard about this.)
That still doesn't mean you'll ever know what the truth is.

I've heard the last book of the Harold M. Potter Esq. series is being released soon. Some poor sports have been giving away the ending like this:
It turns out they were both Tyler Durden.
(P.S. NO, It's not a real spoiler.)
Now I gave up on reading this series a long time ago but I'm certainly of the camp that believes that Neville needs to be the real killer.

I've also reached the end of the subbed Naruto episodes thanks to the miracle of "skipping filler because it's boring". Therefore, my next entry may in fact be mostly about how much I like gloves as a fashion accessory. (Hint: It's a lot.)

In conclusion, we need to make this happen people.

what has science done?
