I've been a little behind on my space blog reading, but I wanted to mention a couple of cool articles. It may now be possible to pinpoint a star
about to go super nova a couple of hours in advance of the event by detecting an increased presence of UV photons. That's not a whole lot of time on a cosmic scale, but catching these events in the act has before been a matter of chance.
Also, there have been
45 new exoplanets discovered, including a trio of "super-earths" around one star. The three planets are not in what is considered to be the habitable zone, but lend strength to the idea that smaller non-gaseous exoplanets may be more common than previously expected.
Surely at least one of those earth-like planets out there yet to be discovered harbors some form of life. That would be the most incredible find.
