Hello Neighbor

The possibility of life right next door? That would be awesome. Of course I don't know how much faith to put in the computer models predicting that there could be rocky earth like planets in the habitable zone . . . most of the exosolar planets that have been detected have been gas giants.

Personally, I'm willing to step out on a limb and believe that there is life out there somewhere, and I'm sure that sounds funny coming from someone with an ignostic view of the universe. But for me it's simply a matter of numbers when you consider the size of the universe and a rejection of the notion that our planet is somehow special or unique on such a scale. Life does exist. It exists here and even here it exists with much diversity. Of course, that's life as we know it.

But it is exciting to think of the number of possibilities and evolutionary paths for life getting started on other planets. I'd be disappointed, however, if we found life and they turned out to be just like us :-P
