Google in recent years has made many changes in how it does searches (see this site:
http://waxy.org/2011/10/google_kills_its_other_plus/)
Because of their "improvements" Google has become increasingly less desirable (and maddening) to me... cluttered, JavaScript heavy, always second-guesses my searches, and frequently ignores terms likes it's hard of hearing; so I went looking for alternatives.
One is
FindErr which still uses Google but automatically adds quotation marks to each word.
Another is a script I found in a link on this page:
http://ask.metafilter.com/181167/Google-is-driving-me-nuts, which still uses Google but automatically adds "allintext" to the search terms entered in Firefox's Search Box.
The script (at link seen in the March 31, 4:19 PM comment) is:
G00gle
Non Crummy Google Search

Save the above as an .xml file and after naming it whatever you like add it to Firefox's
"searchplugins" folder wherever you have it on your system and restart browser. In Firefox's
Search Engine Selector choose "G00gle" as the search engine.
My favorite though so far is
DuckDuckGo, this refreshing engine makes no use of Google and
is more like Google was originally.
