Fucking IQ tests. From my opinion, channel ten's Queer test is probably scientifically more valid than the IQ test.
Speaking of shitty TV.. I finally saw "Queer eye on the straight guy". My lord the blonde gay guy is annoying!!!! And I found the whole thing a little strange. Sure, if you buy all your clothing from major fashion labels... well.. you are unlikely to go wrong, aren't you? And what is up with putting foie gras on truffles? It is basically like saying "Let's match ingredients up by price tags". Sure, it would probably be nice (I had a lovely foie gras and truffle salad in Sarlat once), but it is hardly the kind of thing that a normal person is ever going to achieve. You don't need a pack of gay guys to tell you that getting expensive stuff is going to be impressive.
More than that.. it seems to me a little bit wanky. The pretext of the show seems to be :
"We see the way you are, and you are completly wrong because you don't fit the model of the fashion concious git. So, we are going to help you give the apperance that you are something that you are not, to con your girlfriend/mother/employer."
I won't deny that I tend to pretend to be different things to please different people. But this kind of shmoozing is too much, even for me. Not to mention the perpetuation of the gay myth: all gay men have incredibly taste, are neat, can cook and clean, and know all the social conventions. Obviously, these are people that have never seen the hairy bears that try and pick up 14 year old boys at Stonewall.
