it's been a while sine i wrote anything here, but that doesn't mean nothing had happened.
let's see... yeah, hurricane gustav, hmmm, how did it become our concern? well, because of it, our new orleans sen's birthday trip was canceled. friday night orbitz called and said that it's best we didn't go because they were going to have mandatory evacuation on saturday. so we had canceled the trip the last minute. turned out that they did have evacuation. i guess they weren't gonna take any chances since katrina. well, gustav didn't become a huge hurricane after all, but the whole city shut down as the result of evacuation.
so we stayed in chicago. saturdy we went picnic by the lake, our favorite spot at belmont harbor. normally it's a quite spot, but that day was really beautiful so we had neighbors. picnic is always good, too bad that we didn't have more this year. sunday we went to the
northpond for brunch. it's one of those places that i had always wanted to go. the food was so-so, but it was nice that we went. they actually printed "happy birthday sen" on the menu, which was kinda cute. and after brunch, they gave us the menu to keep. :) off we went to see
wicked. it's ok. both of us feel that it's just all right, too much hype for what it is. the woman sat next to us said to us, this is my favorite show, i have seen it four times! i went into the show with high expectations but the musical didn't deliver.
on the day of sen's birthday we went running only for 10 miles, of course at the hottest time of the day. :) it was overall a good run. then we went
chophouse for dinner. the steaks were great. i ordered prime rib and sen had filet mignon. i discovered that i like the prime rib better because it has more fat on it--what can i say, i love a little fat in my meat! :) we both had a great time there.
happy birthday to sen! this year, i only made him run 10 miles on his birthday so he wasn't all burnt like he was last year after the 18 mile run! :)
***********
fast forward to last saturday, our 18 mile run. the weather was beautiful and it was my best run yet of the season. i dropped back to 9:30 and we followed the group the whole time, and after we were done, i felt strong and i felt happy. i hadn't felt that way for such a long time and i really needed it. i was really happy. :)
sen's mom came that afternoon. she's visiting us until tomorrow. it's so nice to have her here with us for a little bit. sen's dad is in turkey right now, so she's kinda lonely in st. louis, so we invited her to come to visit us for a little bit and as a trip for her be-lated birthday. saturday night we went to millennium park for the free concert. the place was packed! i had never seen it like that before. so we sat down somewhere far from the stage, as a matter of fact, we couldn't even see the stage, and opened up our bottle of wine and just enjoyed the weather, the beautiful night, and togetherness. sunday we went shopping on state street. that night sen took us to ceja's for mom's birthday. was lovely as always and i think mom really enjoyed the dinner. yesterday rained all day and all night. i cooked dinner, my world famous stuffed chicken breast. it turned out ok, not as juicy as i would like it be, but it's all right. we had the wine toshio brought back for us from peru and enjoyed a wonderful evening at home.
today is the pizza night. after speed training we are having pizza. with garlic, yummm... :)
