I was just watching a program on PBS, in which they were talking about Czechoslovakia's national health system. It seems that a person can spend a whole week at a spa courtesy of the national health system, as long as they have a recommendation from their doctor. Wow!
While we are worrying about the cost of basic health care for everyone in the country, I suspect something is not right here. Since our big question is how we will pay for it, then perhaps we should ask these other nations how THEY do it. After all, on the micro scale, if I need to know how to do something I ask others who have done it successfully, and then adapt their suggestions to my own style. I do not waste time arguing with neighbors about whether I ought to do it or how much it will cost.
Thanks to the Internet as far as I can see, the UK, Sweden, and now Czechoslovakia might be able to give us some good input about national health care. I do not see that these health systems in Europe have in any way impaired the freedom of the people, even though their governments run the programs.
So I ask respectfully, What is OUR problem?
