New Think?

Since today is a day for resentments at the Powers that Be, here's another one.
I have been getting many emails from President Obama's people, urging me to sign in on petitions to further legislation he is interested in getting through Congress.  The latest one I got is pushing for the Health Care bill, which is in my present opinion full of holes with lots of breaks for the insurance companies and pretty much more of the same old same old for the average person.
I am no longer affected by all this, since now that I am retired I am on what I consider a great model for Universal Health Care  - 100% tax supported Medicare plus Medicaid.  Unfortunately in order to qualify for this plan a person has to have income below the poverty level.  I wrote back to the Obama people explaining how I support Universal Health care that is tax-supported.  I justified the tax increase by stating that I was willing to wager that those who paid the tax increase would find that they were at least even on out of pocket expenditures, since they would no longer have high premiums and co-payments to deal with, and there would be no need to come up with this money each time an illness struck.  I shot down the argument that "the government would dictate my health care" with the argument that the insurance companies are doing it now to those who are insured -- meanwhile, I get the best of care, not rationed or restricted by some insurance company.
So I wrote a reply to the email from the Obama people, and not fifteen minutes later I got - once again - their same word-for-word canned reply thanking me for my support, etc., etc.  So I unsubscribed from their email list.  They even gave me space to explain why I am unsubscribing, and I told them that their one size fits all canned reply does not fit ME.  That they have convinced me that they are not interested in citizens' input, but rather they are only seeking thousands of signatures to send to Congress to show support for bills that may or may not reflect the public's interests.
There will be no reply to this one because I am no longer on their email list.

health care, obama, letters to congresspersons, government, letters to the president
