fandom snowflake challenge: Day 1

Jan 02, 2012 15:19

Okay, I am trying this even though I am already a day behind. Whatever. It seems like a fun thing to do.

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

The first thing for this post is actually easy: still your song, a Mark/Eduardo Social Network story. I was really proud of it as I wrote it, and six months later (wow, has it really been six months?) I'm still proud of it. At the time, it was far and away the longest thing I'd ever written, clocking in at about 14,300 words, and I just really like how the story and the style and everything turned out. Writing it was an experience for me, because of the length and the genre and the fandom and just everything. The fact that I, like the crazy person I am, sat down and wrote this whole thing in just over a month and that it's actually good still kind of blows me away.

I'm also really pleased with first Social Network fic I ever posted, which is really short and without a doubt the strangest story I've ever written. It's called the derivative of a constant is zero, and it's Eduardo pining and trying to make sense of what Mark did, through calculus. For those of you won't don't know (which is probably most of you), I'm a huge academic nerd, and as such, I took three years of calculus in high school. I haven't done any in college, but the knowledge is still there and being able to take it and apply it to fandom was such a wonderful feeling.

Oh, and actually making a podcast has been pretty freaking cool. A lot of work, sometimes (see: the day I spent so long editing episode 2 that I was thinking in a British accent), but also really satisfying. And the response has been gratifying, as well. It's always nice to feel like your opinions and your thoughts and your insights are interesting and meaningful to other people. So yeah, I'm fucking reccing podramble, guys, because it's fucking awesome.

And last but not least, I'm really pleased with the first Revenge fic I wrote, Flash a Hungry Smile. First, I feel like I captured the characters really well, despite them both being complex and guarded and toying with each other. Second, and maybe other people don't have this problem, but I always worry that porn I'm writing is not actually hot. And with this fic? I was like, NOPE THIS IS DEFINITELY HOT I CAN TELL. So knowing that I'd accomplished that was really nice.
