Morrissey, Simpson Join 'Smash' Lineup(Friday, May 14 11:30 AM)
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - The WB's summer music show "Pepsi Smash" is offering up a wide-ranging lineup of acts this season, from bubbly popster Jessica Simpson to the eternally mopey Morrissey.
Simpson, who may or may not be starring in her own ABC sitcom next week, is set to appear on at least two episodes of the show, which premieres Thursday, May 27. Lenny Kravitz, Black Eyed Peas, Hoobastank, Alanis Morrissette, "O.C." favorites Rooney, Joss Stone, Avril Lavigne and Kanye West are also among the other performers scheduled for the eight-week series.
Nick Zano, a co-star of the network's comedy "What I Like About You," will serve as host for the in-studio performances. "Smash" will also take its cameras on the road this season, with Rachel Perry of VH1 handling the remote duties.
Perry will be traveling in the "SmashMobile," a tour bus/remote set that will stop at several venues across the country. The show is set to beam snippets of live performances from OutKast's Big Boi, Blink-182, John Mayer and Sting to the audience.
"Pepsi Smash" wasn't much of a ratings smash for The WB last summer, drawing fewer than 2 million viewers per week. Pepsi's heavy involvement in the show, however, means it doesn't cost the network much, and it never hurts to keep a big advertiser happy.
