Zac and I are texting back and forth his sitting in the chair beside the bed I'm laying beside Callie and Pam's lying on the other side of her sleeping.
I love you.
I watch Zac's phone light up the dark room. With Callie and Pam sleeping Zac turned off the TV now we're laying in the dark.
I see him smile as he reads my text.
I love you to.
So I was thinking about the wedding and with it being on Halloween. Why can't we be zombies bride and groom?
I love you Zac but no I'm not dressing up as a zombie on my wedding day sorry LOL
Zac laughs as he reads my text.
Hey, it was worth a shot.
It was, are you sleepy?
No are you?
Nope I'm still wide awake.
Zac and I spend half the night texting each other because either of us could sleep.
The next day after me and Zac and Pam had breakfast, which was from burger king cause the hospital food isn't any good Grace, which was short for Gracie bought Callie in flowers.
"Looks like someone sent Callie flowers with a little get well balloon with them" Grace says sitting them down on the night table so Callie could see them.
"I wonder who there're from?" Pam asks curiously.
"Probably my mother" I say taking the last drink of my coffee.
"Yup that's who they're from" Pam smiles reading the little card that was stuck in the middle of the yellow roses..
"We will have to call her later to thank her won't we Callie." Pam says
Callie giggles.
"I'm gonna take a smoke break you wanna come with me?" Zac asks standing up to his feet.
I nod. "Please I need to get out of this bed for a while my back hurts" I say stretching.
I lean down kissing Callie's cheek "We'll be back in a minute"
She smiles
I hold my out arms to Zac, so he can pick me up.
"Awe do you wanna hug" he teases squeezing me tight. Zac picks me up then plops me down in my chair.
"We'll be back ma" Zac says as I follow him out of the door.
Zac takes a sit on the empty bench lighting a cigarette.
"It's no heat wave out here" I say yawning
I park my chair beside the bench taking Zac's hand in mine.
"No its not." He says leaning back on the bench.
"I thought when Callie takes a nap or when my mom takes her to shower we'll go to my house shower, eat, maybe take a nap."
"Sounds like a plan."
After the break, Zac and I went back in the hospital, we spent most of the morning reading, Zac watching basketball he found flipping through the channels every now and then he would do the burping trick to make his sister laugh.
"Zac you ready to leave" I say nudging his knee.
"Yea in sec Lind's" Zac says his eyes fixed on the TV
Callie has fallen asleep.
Twenty minutes later I'm still waiting on Zac, who still hasn't taken his eyes off the game.
I'll be a zombie bride for our wedding" I say trying to get his attention.
"Huh, what" Zac says turning his attention to me.
"Finally" I laugh
"Are you ready to go or do you want me to bring a change of clothes back"?
"Yea bring me something."
Shirt and jeans or..." I ask seeing I'm losing Zac once again to the basketball game.
"A shirt and lounge pants will be fine" he says looking at the TV.
I look over in the corner Pam is sitting in the chair laughing. "That's your future husband," she giggles.
"I know" I laugh
"Do you need me to stop by the house to pick you and Callie anything while I'm out"?
"No were fine."
"Okay I will be back shortly" I smile.
I load my chair up then I'm off to Zac house. I take a nice hot shower to warm myself a bit and wash my hair.
As I'm gathering up Zac stuff, I call my mom to check in she tells me Pam called to thank her for the flowers.
I'm about to roll out the door when I remember Zac saying earlier when he goes home, he needs to grab another pack cigarette from the fridge.
I roll into the kitchen opening the fridge grabbing the pack of cigarette sitting on the door then I was off to the hospital once again.
Zac is still sitting on the edge of his seat his eye's glued to the TV, he must have found another game while I was gone. I sit the duffle bag on the edge of the hospital bed rolling to the other side of the bed.
"Where's your mama" I ask Callie.
"She went to shower" Grace smiles walking in the room with a new IV bag.
I look up at Callie IV to see it's empty.
"Oh your fine" the young lady says as I move so she can replace the bags.
"So was he like this with basketball when you guys were little?" Grace asks curiously taking a sit on the edge of the bed.
"Yes it drove me bananas," I laugh watching Zac "I'd want to play or go outside, and I couldn't get him away from TV."
"Pam was telling me earlier you, and Zac met when you were in elementary school."
I nod with a smile.
Grace and I turn to Callie when we hear her making noise.
"What is no one paying attention to you?" I tease
Callie laughs.
I could see Callie eyeing her brother her noises get little louder.
"Is she trying to get his attention?" Grace asks.
I nod with a smile watching the two of them.
Callie's noises get louder and louder.
"Hey I was watching that" Zac snaps as I turn the TV off putting the remote back on the tiny table
"She wants you" I laugh pointing to Callie
"Oh hey munchkin sorry I kinda got caught up on the game" He says turning around to face his sister now.
"Ohh I know what you want" he grins.
"I'll be right back" he says leaving the room
"Where is he going?" Grace asks.
"To get a soda from the machine." I answer
Zac comes back with three cans soda, he opens one takes a big drink then burps.
The bubbly laughter comes from Callie.
"I don't think I have ever heard her laugh like that" Grace smiles.
"Yea, I don't know why she thinks it so funny when I burp like that, but she loves it" Zac smiles.
The rest of the week, some pretty much the same keeping Callie comfortable and not so bored
Thursday I was talking with Pam, who was on the opposite side of the bed watching Callie sleep.
"I need to wake her up the doctors going to be here in a few minutes"
"It's a good thing Zac isn't here." Zac had to work today and won't be here until this evening.
"Why" I ask curiously.
"Zac and Dr James don't see eye to eye"
"Let me guess his a wonderful doctor but doesn't a great bedside manner"?
Pam nods "He can be a bit of a jerk at times"
As Pam and I are talking, a man with grey thinning hair comes in looks like his in his mid fifties.
He doesn't say hi he walks over the Pam side of the bed and starts poking and prodding Callie, I see her open her eyes whimpering.
"It's okay beautiful" I whisper.
"There's no use in talking to her like that she can't understand you" the man says coldly
I don't say anything look at Callie smiling.
Once she was fully awake I notice, Callie's looking at the doctor like hey, I'm right here talk to me not her. The doctor was busy talking to Pam about the infection. How it is cleaned up something about how he would like to replace her feeding tube since it's been a few years.
"You understand more than we all think you, don't you" I whisper with a smile.
Callie looks at me smiling "The doctors use to ignore me all the time I hated just as much as you do.1"
He must have heard what I said to Callie, he looks towards me giving me a nasty look.
I want to say something smart to the doctor, but I don't I just keep my focus on Callie.
"So you think Zac will watch big Ang with us when he gets here."
Callie laughs.
"I think he will to" I smile.
I could see the doctor watching me out the corner of his eye his figuring out that I'm doing this to piss him off.
All of sudden Callie laughs looking towards the door.
"What is it" I ask.
"The manager let me off earlier today" Zac grins hopping on the edge of the bed.
"So how's my awesome sister doing today?"
Callie looks at Zac grinning from ear to ear.
"Oh you and Lind's read more gossip magazines"?
A few minutes later, the doctor left leaving the five of us alone.
"So what did Dr Jerk have to say"?
Pam sighs. He said her infection is gone, but he would like to replace her feeding tube since she has this one for a few years."
Zac nods. I must have a funny look on my face because Zac tells me it's normal for the doctor to want to replace the feeding tube after a few years.
"So will it be the same kind of tube" I ask Zac Saturday.
"It should be" he shrugs.
We are lying in the middle of Callie's bed waiting; the doctors took her into surgery a few minutes ago.
Pam went to go see if any of the nurses need any help she told me it helps with the waiting instead of just sitting still in a chair.
This was first time for me being on the other end of this. I've always been the one being cut open my parents were the one doing the waiting. Let me tell you I'd rather be the one being operated on this waiting this painful.
"I'm going to go smoke you wanna come with me" Zac asks getting up from the bed.
I nod sitting up. Zac scoops me up sitting me down in my chair.
"You're going to want this," he says handing my hoddie. "It's no heat wave out there." He continues pulling his own hoddie over his head.. Once outside we take our normal seats by the bench.
"I bet those flowers are for Callie" I say watching a deliver man walk in the hospital with a vase full of yellow roses.
"Okay I'll bet you five bucks" Zac says taking the last puff of his cigarette.
"You're on" I grin
"Looky here" I giggle seeing the same vase of roses the deliveryman carried into the hospital.
I roll over to the table; I carefully take the note card from the flowers.
Callie I'm happy to hear you are feeling better I hope your surgery goes well today.
"Are they from your mom"? Zac asks sitting back on the bed.
I nod with a smile putting the note card back.
Sunday I was rolling in the hospital, I could hear Callie laughing all the way in the hallway.
"I'm not sure what's going on" Grace says to me, she's behind the nurse desk doing paper work it looks like.
When I roll closer to the room, I hear Ike doing his Kermit impression. I sit in the doorway watching them Zac is sitting on one side of the bed Isaac is sitting on the opposite side.
Callie is all smiles looking at Isaac.
"Hey Lind's" Isaac smiles spotting me in the doorway
I smile rolling into the room parking my chair beside Zac.
"I could hear you all the way in the hall Callie" I laugh
"Yes I was telling her I wanted to come earlier in the week to visit, but the week got away from me."
"Callie was telling Ike she gets to go home later this afternoon" Zac smiles.
"Awesomeness"
Once the DR James aka DR Jerk signs Callie release papers Pam is allowed to take Callie home.
"I'll call you if anything happens" Pam says hugging her son goodbye.
"Now go home and get some rest both of you," she says looking at me.
"Don't worry ma I plan on taking a very long nap when I get home."
Closing the front door behind him once we get home, I watch Zac take his shirt and his pants off sitting down in the recliner in just his boxers.
"Do you want something to eat?" I ask rolling in the kitchen for a drink.
"If there anything here " he answers with a yawn
We have two things of random noodle's beef favor is that okay," I ask looking in the cabinet beside the fridge.
"Yup that's fine."
I grab the bowls that Zac leaves on the bar, so I can reach them.
I open up the noodles placing them in the bowls.
As I'm about to turn on the water to fill bowls when I hear Zac snoring.
I place the bowls I'm holding on the bar rolling beside the recliner placing the blanket that's on the arm of the chair over my snoring fiancé.
I park my wheelchair by the couch sliding on to the couch covering myself with the blanket that's on the back. I fall asleep listening to Zac snoring..................
