Before the next exciting episode of Sims: House and Wilson, here is a little useful (and non-technical, don't worry :D ) information about creating Sims. There are two main ways to do that; you can either create one from scratch or you can get two Sims together and let them do what comes naturally...
One - Creating a Sim from scratch
This is pretty easy - you just decide whether you want a male or female Sim, and how old you want them to be (anything between baby and elder), then you can edit their face and hair until you have what you want. You give them a name, pick their clothes, and give them an Aspiration - that's the general aim of their life. All my Sims are either Family or Knowledge Sims - unsurprisingly, Family Sims value anything related to family matters, and Knowledge Sims value anything related to gaining knowledge. You set their turn-ons and turn-offs - for example, one of House's turn-ons is 'brown eyes'.
The really important bit comes last - tweaking the Sim's character. There are five pairs of attributes to which you allocate points; you can have up to ten points in any one attribute pair.
Low point values make the Sim tend towards the left side of the scale and high values the right. In the example here, the Sim will be very sloppy (messy), quite shy, pretty lazy, very playful and very nice.
Because you only have a limited number of points available, you have to balance the desired character of your Sim with what you can manage using those points. Also, because the attributes come in pairs, you can't necessarily have what you want anyway - for example, House can't be logical (= serious) and playful.
Generally, it works pretty well, as can be seen by sim!House and sim!Wilson :D
Two - Making Babies
If you are playing the game properly (more of which in a moment) you will need a mummy and a daddy, or alternatively a daddy and an alien (yes, really).
The alien scenario is special - any adult male who is stargazing stands a chance of attracting alien attention and getting himself abducted:
which results in pregnancy and a green baby:
This is one of my other Sims - House and Wilson haven't yet been visited by aliens... *evil cackle*
If you have a mummy and a daddy, you just need to direct them to WooHoo (remember, that's Sims-speak for The Naughty) but with the special instruction 'Try for baby'. This will often (but not always) result in the mummy having a pretty rough time for a day, throwing up several times and generally feeling pretty ropy, after which she starts to 'show' and has a slightly better time. However, Sims have it much easier than humans, as they are only pregnant for three days.
But, you might be asking, what happens if you have two Sims of the same sex? I'm afraid that they are stuck with adoption.
Unless you use the Sims Secret Testing Cheats...
The cheats allow you to make a male Sim pregnant by another male Sim (or by himself, but that's just weird). You can also speed up the pregnancy if you wish, so that it takes about two (Sim) hours instead of three days.
And that's all there is to it...
Tune in later this evening for Sims: House and Wilson - Starting a Family!
