I really love Erase Errata. They are such a cool band, I wish they would come to New Zealand.

And I'm also totally digging Black Dice

Fuck yah

I gave Mr Williams my English Assignment yesterday to have a look over, I think its the first time he hasn't ripped something to shreds and had 10 million pieces of advice. All he said was, "Good, check your spelling"
Which for him his amazing!

So,
Bird bird bird, b-bird's the word

I'm not a chicken to admission, but I must say that I love how people react when I tell them I'm a feminist. They cast such scornful glances at me. I can practically see the words being processed in their eyes- "hairy armpits, man-hater, lesbian" and with dalek-like determination, "exterminate!"

And I smile as my predictions come true...is it a bird? Is it a plane?...No, its a flock of pseudo diplomatic words flying in formation.
"Gosh, I haven't heard that word used in a long time? Are you trying to get higher wages for women now? Hohoho, fair enough. I suppose you need it, with all that shopping and what-not!" Turkey. I'm not about to deny my addiction to retail therapy, but respond politely enough, "Well, I know what to buy you for Christmas, don't I?" Oh the possibilities! Mouth shaped duct tape, soap-on-a-rope-hold-the-soap, a gun with one bullet, a guillotine? Maybe not. Lack of cranial matter means you're still going to run around with your head chopped off.

I think I'm going to stick with a dictionary, Or if I'm feeling particularly cheep cheep, one photocopied page of it, paying special attention to the definition:

Feminism: 1. Belief in the social, political and economic equality of the sexes

2. The movement organised around this belief

I know you’re already rolling your eyes at this stage. Before you twitter too much, try to set your prejudices aside.
Although in the first world we’re fairly up there in the political pecking order and earning the same bread and butter for our efforts, socially the world isn’t all milk and honey for us birds.
Consider this. When I walk home by myself in the darkness, I can’t shake off that constant lurking shadow of fear- being mugged, murdered, raped- am I equal? Should it be considered equal that on a hot day a man can go shirtless but suddenly if a girl wears a short skirt, she’s easy? Is it equality that a man who has had many sexual partners is labeled a “stud,” whilst a woman is called a “slut”? Why am I always so-and-so’s girlfriend instead of just being myself?
And many are still caught up with the idea that chicks are all about aesthetics. Turn on your televisions and objectification of women comes to haunt you once more like a bad horror movie. How often do you see female pop singers who aren’t conventionally beautiful on music videos? When’s the last time you heard a report from a weather presenter not showing cleavage? Our own female Prime Minister Helen Clark is constantly slagged off about her looks and sexuality. I ask, why not former Prime Minister Jim Bolger? One wouldn’t exactly call him male model material. I’m not quite sure how sexual orientation and political roles are correlated, but the always charming Rodney Hide somehow deduced that Miss Clark was involved in a ”lesbian cabal.” Maybe like John Tamihere, he’s frankly sick of the “front bums” running the country. Birds of a feather normally stick together, but sadly this election they weren’t both hit with the same stone.
The bedrock of cultural expectation is what primarily harms womens’ confidence, self esteem and causes them to constantly find faults in themselves. All I can say to these ladies is, don’t lay an egg about it. For now, just repeat the maxim after me, “I am not my body.”
Ruffling more than a few feathers recently is the announcement that New Zealand will soon be having its very own “Hooters” Restaurant. You certainly won’t be finding any ugly ducklings there, just young swans scantily clad in low cut crop tops and hot pants. And before you ask, the logo of the Restaurant is an owl, though certain other aspects of the female anatomy do spring to mind. The restaurant has already sparked much controversy overseas. However, claims of sexism have been countered by the multinational corporate chain, which concludes that Hooters is not so, because it is merely giving women “the same right to use their natural female sex appeal to earn as living as do supermodels Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell.”
Much as I praise the fact that the women to be employed will be there out of their own free wills, there’s just one dischordant note in this delightfully seedy song of praise New Zealand spokesman Michael Flinn sings. Hooters is a restaurant. Restaurants are for eating. Eating is ritualistic and universal. The significance this holds is that objectification is being “normalised” in a restaurant setting, where kids and adults can go and have a meal. It fosters the dated attitude that women are objects, which by now should be dead as a dodo.
It will be interesting to see if the chain takes flight with us Kiwis. I’ll be watching with hawk eyes, but I’m fairly certain its bound to be a dead duck.

Pure Nerd
82 % Nerd, 21% Geek, 17% Dork For The Record:

A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.

A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.

A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.

You scored better than half in Nerd, earning you the title of: Pure Nerd.

The times, they are a-changing. It used to be that being exceptionally smart led to being unpopular, which would ultimately lead to picking up all of the traits and tendences associated with the "dork." No-longer. Being smart isn't as socially crippling as it once was, and even more so as you get older: eventually being a Pure Nerd will likely be replaced with the following label: Purely Successful.

Congratulations!
