Old Manscara. That's what Sawyer called him.
He's the first to go.
He got sick without any Island or Jacob to save him. He didn't look that old, was passing for his late 50's, had nothing but gray hair before he lost it all in treatment. She wonders why she's the one watching his dying moments, why she's the one holding his hand, listening to his conversation with no one in particular.
The conversation ends; then he goes.
Sawyer can't comment on the story of Richard's deathbed conversation. Kate can't bring herself to understand. In this life, she never does.

She wonders what they mean.
A strange woman once threw cards on a table, claiming to read Risette's future. Rise paid her no mind; she thought the cards irrelevant. Now she scans shadows, others, herself and wonders why they fall into those categories. Her label at face value makes her giggle and think of Senpai; but she's helped rescue too many troubled souls to accept face value as truth.
She thinks about the woman and her cards, wondering if the story they tried to tell wasn't so irrelevant after all.

It felt like a mockery, seeing her half-smiling image, the embodiment of nostalgic tradition, taped and pinned all over his old haunts. Inaba loved Misuzu more than its miscreant children; the ubiquity of her image would remain after he became trivia and old news. He would hear her voice crooning brokenhearted love songs on an old radio at the festival, see her picture on the bulletin board next to job postings, found pets and planned events like she was part of the community, like this was her hometown and not his.
He couldn't escape her. She'd chased him this far.
