Sherry shifted back and forth on her feet in the DRT room. Technicians and other people ran here and there around her, but it was easy to not mark the little girl in the crowd of shifting people. She was glad that her guardians had made it (mostly) out safely, and that now everyone would be going home, like they'd wanted. Even that cute little kitten. Sherry, however, was uneasy.

If everyone were going home, did that mean that she was going to get lost again? Sherry crossed her arms and sighed deeply. She didn't want to be lost again. That wasn't fair.

"There you are!" Claire had been looking for the little girl after having a little chat with one of the techs, and after a little bit of mounting worry she was relieved to catch sight of her. She crouched down in front of Sherry when she reached her, looking up into the little girl's face.

"Are you okay, sweetie?"

Sherry looked down at her feet for a moment, and then up at Claire. "I was thinking. When everyone goes home, does that mean we're all going back to where we belong? And if we are... Am I going to get lost again?"

The prospect grew more horrible and frightening the more she thought about it. "Because, if that's the case... I don't want to go."

"I was actually talking with one of the techs about that," despite the look on Sherry's face, Claire smiled, reaching up to gently brush the little girl's bangs away from her face.

"The universe that they're from, the one this place was copied from, it's our world. If we just go back to that Manhattan, you'll be in the future by ten years, but..." she hesitated, biting her lip and considering Sherry for a moment. "I can take care of you. If you want to stay with me."

Sherry's mouth dropped open, as her brain tried to wrap around the words, and make sure she'd heard them exactly the way Claire had said them.

Go home. With Claire. Stay. And live. With Claire. "I... I..." Sherry started and squeaked excitedly, before she threw her arms around Claire. "Yes! Yes, please! Yes! Thank you!"

Claire laughed, wrapping her arms around Sherry's smaller form and squeezing her tightly.

"I promised I'd take care of you," she said softly, stroking a hand over the back of the little girl's head. "And this time I'm keeping that promise."

Sherry nodded her head and buried her face in Claire's shoulder. She did her best to not sniffle, but her heart felt like someone had filled it to bursting, and she took a breath to steady herself. The little girl pulled back and scrubbed at her eyes quickly.

"For the record," she murmured. "I'm not crying. I'm just really happy." She didn't care that she'd be 10 years ahead of where she needed to be. Sherry straightened her shoulders and smiled widely at Claire. "I don't mind being ahead of myself by ten years."

Billy was waiting by the railing of the ship too, gazing out on the water. He had a perfectly even look on his face. Contented, even.

This could be the least scary expression that anyone had ever seen on Billy Coen.

Sherry approached him quietly, and stood on tip-toe to get a good look at his face, her little body half stretched over the edge of the rail.

"You look happy," she interrupted quietly. Sherry was happy too, really happy. Everything would be okay now. "I'm sorry I said you were scary." Even though he was.

He glanced over at Sherry and smirked, shrugging his shoulders a little bit. "Nah, it's cool. I'm all right with being a little scary."

Sherry looked unusually happy too, come to think of it. "Happy to be going home, honey?"

Sherry leaned against the rail and looked into the river, and answered in a singularly pleased-as-punch tone, "I'm going home with Claire, so I won't be lost this time." She didn't know what kind of parent Claire would be, or what kind of 'daughter' she would, but it would be a learning experience for them both.

"She said she'd take care of me." Sherry looked up at Billy and laughed a little. "I'm really, really happy."

Sounds like he wasn't the only one who'd gotten some good news out of all this mess. "That's great," he said, and really sounded like he meant it. He didn't know the full story of Sherry's past and parentage, but from what he did know, she'd probably be way better off.

"You better come visit me and Rebecca sometime, in that case."

Sherry nodded, "I will! Well, we will." She smiled again. "I like saying that," she confessed. "But, I guess it will be a little weird. Claire said I'd be ten years ahead of where I needed to be."

"Where will you be living?"

"I'm not sure," he admitted. Though it wasn't for the reason he hadn't previously been sure. He'd originally assumed to spend the next few years of his life on the lam in Canada, but the necessity of that had been abruptly removed within the last hour or so. "But we'll be in touch, how about?"

"Promise." Sherry held up her pinky, though her expression was both amused and serious. "Don't worry, I won't tell anyone you did." Like Uncle Kevin, who she was sure was still wandering around the ship some where.

Somewhere.

Billy smiled again (for reals) and linked pinkies with her. "You got it, sweetheart."
