STORAGE PIT – Temeraire, Skysong, Aladar, Old Lace stand2gether September 4 2009, 07:16:59 UTC
The ground was cold beneath Aladar. He opened his eyes, but closed them a moment longer. What hit me? He turned his head towards his foreleg. It hurt a little. There was a tiny puncture wound between his scales. Odd. He thought little of it.

The iguanodon struggled to his feet and sniffed the air. Kitten was there. He saw her to one side. And...

Aladar went wide-eyed and stepped back from the sleeping raptor. It reeked of predator. "...There's only one." He considered crushing it before it could harm anyone, but he hesitated. "If it attacks. Things are different here." Still, there was a third scent in the room. It looked similar to Kitten, but larger. He didn't approach it, either, out of sheer uncertainty.

Instead, he went over to Kitten and nuzzled her gently. "Wake up," he whispered. "We're somewhere strange."

Kitten yawned sleepily, leaning into Aladar's touch and trying to place the familiar voice. Whoever it was, he was waking her up with an affectionate gesture, so he must be a friend. She opened her eyes, and in an instant the situation came flooding back to her. Her scales shifted to a frightened pink and she let out a loud whistlescream that would have translated to Daine's name if anyone were in earshot who could understand her ( ... )

"Very well done," Temeraire remarked, as he unwound himself from the heap he had been left in. His tail was already lashing in agitation, hitting the side of the pit with a whiplike motion every few moments. He nudged Old Lace, recognising her from the super hero meetings previously. They would need everyone they could find, if they were to rescue everyone. He couldn't change colour to express his mood, as Kitten did, but his every muscle tensed as he remembered Billy's disappearance, just before the rest of the Young Avengers.

Angrily, he reared up at the bars overhead, but could not quite reach to collide. Instead, he let out the largest roar he was capable of, in the hopes that some of their friends would hear, and know they were coming.

Old Lace's head jerked up, and she got immediately to her feet. Her body ached, both hers and his. Something just didn't feel right. She couldn't smell anything other than the other reptiles she'd been imprisoned with. She looked them over. Some were familiar. She nodded to them, and seemed completely unconcerned with the usual reptilian food chain. Chase, wake up. Where are you? I'm on a ship. One of the walls says CV-108 Storage.

She let out a purr of distaste at Temeraire's roar. She turned away from the group, and made a circuit around their cell, looking around for anything useful.

"Wow. Nice job, Kitten." He wasn't sure what she'd done, but he knew that it was related to the manmade barricade he'd learned was referred to as a "door." Or "hatch."

The iguanodon regarded the dromeosaur with caution. He gave it a stern look, but said nothing. Hopefully it would get the point across.

Aladar's voice joined Temeraire's as he bellowed at the top of his lungs. Whatever was keeping them here, human, predator, or otherwise, should know they weren't going to scatter to be picked off.

Positioning himself below the bars, Aladar looked to the larger of the winged "saurians." Despite the sharp teeth, Aladar could at least tell by its speech that it wasn't about to prey upon them. "Here. Try climbing on my back." He braced himself. Either by sheer weight or from the other's claws, he knew this was going to hurt.

Kitten's voice could not reach the same heights as the two more vocal of her companions, at least not without hurting all their ears; her verbal assaults should be saved for when they could hurt the ears of whoever had captured them. And so she refrained from joining in the defiant roar, instead reaching for her neck, grateful when she found a small cloth pouch still hanging there. She followed Old Lace around the perimeter of the storage bay, also investigating ( ... )

Old Lace continued her mental conversation with Chase as she pretty much came up empty. She looked back to see the iguanadon and the larger dragon towering themselves together. That was as good idea as any.

The smaller one got her attention. Clearly she was concerned about whether or not she was feeling carnivorous. She nodded at the word on the card. To add a note of further friendliness to the exchange, she leaned forward, and patted her on the head. It wasn't often she got to interact with other reptiles. She wasn't sure what to do with herself. Oddly, the tiny dragon reminded her a bit of Molly.

She turned to watch Aladar and Temeraire's plan. If they could get the gate open, they could set the others free.

Oh, yes. That would serve most admirably. With the utmost care, Temeraire stepped up onto the back of the wingless dragon, unfurling and flaring his own sizeable wingspan to keep some kind of balance. With the extra height - though he lost some stability in trying not to score Aladar's hide with his claws - he managed to reach the grating. From then, it took a swan-like recoil of his neck, and several headbutts for the metal fixtures to shake loose.

"There," he managed in satisfaction, surveying his work through the bursts of light the repeated slams had caused across his vision. "I think another will do it; pray stand a little farther away."

Aladar grunted under the weight of the winged saurian on his back, and felt his own flesh pinched between scaled foot and his own bones. He steadied himself with each blow his partner made to the door. It was clear the other was trying not to dig in his claws, something Aladar was very appreciative of.

With his last announcement, Aladar grimaced and closed his eyes, spreading his stance a little to prepare for the final blow.

Kitten whistled contentedly as Old Lace petted her. She liked the dinosaur right away, and the gesture did a lot to relieve the degree of her worry and anxiety. She was still angry, but not with nearly as much intensity for the time begin, and her scales had faded back to their customary gold-tinged blue ( ... )
