He was pacing his room at the hotel, still hurting from Sora's sudden disappearance. He'd felt his Somebody's presence suddenly cease, but he hadn't been there. It hadn't been his shift. And he didn't want to go find the others to ask what had happened - he didn't want to talk about it with Riku and Kairi and Donald and Goofy there and be the shadow of their missing friend, the one who didn't fit. A look at the computers had told him all he needed to know: people were disappearing. All kinds of people. It wasn't just Sora. And Roxas was growing increasingly convinced that it was just a matter of time, and - and -

- he jumped at the burst of pink smoke, tensing immediately - but there was only one person he knew in Manhattan who got around that way, and she was someone he was actually pleased to see. He relaxed, a little, but his entire stance was still sharp with anxiety. He almost looked scared.

"Megan ... what are you doing here?"

Megan didn't waste a moment. She hugged Roxas, even in all her armor. So she didn't make the hug quite as tight, "Silly, I came to make sure you were okay." Roxas looked a little scary, but he was still Roxas, and he lost someone important. Megan was... very composed. It was a little weird. She gave Roxas his personal space again.

She also wasn't there for Sora's vanishing act. She felt it though... not Sora's, but others. People vanishing was like stones falling into a lake, she felt the ripples from others as the darkness from them vanished, even if wasn't much. All at once it was feelable. She knew it was getting worse too. "I didn't wanna be alone right now."

Roxas didn't quite hug her back, but he did sort of put his arms around her - it was an awkward gesture but some of the tension went out of him with it, and he nodded, slowly, when she moved away from him. That made sense ... he'd sort of ... figured she had her own people to be with. But ... maybe they were all gone already.

"Yeah," he said, and it occurred to him ... "... neither did I."

It was a little weird, being alone like this. But it was still nice, and exactly where Megan wanted to be. With him. She didn't like the ideas of the people vanishing, or losing him, or him losing her. It was all too complicated.

"Roxas... can you do me a favor?"

"A favor?" He blinked. " ... What do you mean?" Although he seemed a little surprised at the request, Roxas was already sure that, whatever it was, he would do whatever he could to fulfil it.

Megan closed her eyes. A blade forming in her hand. Her Soul Dagger. "I need you to hold onto this... until tomorrow." She flipped it so she was holding the blade, offering the hilt to Roxas. She looked serious about this.

Roxas watched in surprise - he seemed hesitant to take the blade. "But isn't that - it's part of your soul," he said.

"Yes, and I'll be very mad if you lose it," Megan said with a bit of sarcasm. She got more serious afterward, "Its a thing I can find for sure, anywhere."

"... Even across different worlds?" Roxas asked as, still just a little reluctantly, he took the Soul Dagger. He turned it over in his hands. A part of Megan's soul. Would he have handed the equivalent over? He wasn't sure.

"Yes. It's a part of me, so long as it isn't hidden inside a person I can find it anywhere." Megan smiled. Mr. Wagner explained all about how that sort of thing works when he got back from Space. "It's mine, I'm connected to it across forever."

Roxas just stared at her for a moment, his mouth twitching into a smile. If that was true ... then even if they were going to get sent back, if Tagruato thought this experiment had failed ... He'd be able to see her again.

"- Okay," he said. "I'll keep it safe." He paused, and then added, "I promise."

He smiled! And it was cute! Megan had to hug him again. "Roxas. Thank you."

"I promise, you haven't lost everyone. You still have-" And the weight of Megan hugging him was gone.

He hugged her back this time, actually managing to do it without freezing up or feeling awkward or -

- or ...

... she was gone. He hoped for a moment she might have teleported away, but of course she hadn't - there had been no magic words, no puff of smoke. She was just ... gone. Like Sora.

Roxas took a step back, steadying himself against a wall with one hand, clutching the dagger to his chest with the other.

"Megan ..."
