I Watch You [Narrative]

Sep 02, 2009 03:11

Characters: Riku

Content: Riku finishes a shift watching Sora to make sure he doesn’t vanish.

Location: BPH, Sora’s room.

Time of day: Nearly 6 a.m.

Warnings: None, aside from the lame music reference.

Riku yawned and looked at the glowing desk clock. 5:58. His shift was almost over. He’d been reading a travel guide that seemed to be about many of the worlds they’d visited, though he was perplexed at how it could say they were all in a place called Florida. With some strange mentions to places like California. As intrigued as he was, and as much as he wanted to visit a world inside a world should they ever escape the island, not even the book was helping to keep him awake anymore.

With a soft sigh he leaned back in his chair and looked to Sora.

The sleeping Keyblade master had his back to the older teen, for which he was slightly thankful. Riku had almost laughed at Sora’s expression once. Of course, waking him up was the least of their problems. Every few minutes Riku would look up from his book, or a game in he brought that instead. And every time he felt comforted to know his best friend was still there. It felt almost like it was becoming an obsessive compulsive tendency to check on Sora.

Of course, it was usually easier early in the night. They usually talked far too late. Riku sat wherever the desk lamp was set up that evening and Sora sat on his bed. Topics ranged from exploring the rest of the world they were stuck on and what they’d do first when they got home to where they should patrol next. Eventually Sora would lay down, even if he kept talking. Conversation usually ended when he said he wanted to sleep or Riku discovered he wasn’t going to get a reply.

He narrowed his eyes at Sora a moment. Somehow, despite laying in bed for hours, Sora’s hair always seemed unfazed.

A subtle click and a narrow beam of light from the hallway trickled into the room. A petite silhouette indicated he was done.

“Hey,” Riku whispered.

“Morning.” Kairi looked a little disheveled, like she’d forgotten to comb her hair. This was early even for her.

A smirk replied to her smile. “Night.” It was his turn to sleep. With a long stretch he rose from the chair he’d been in. If it had been any more comfortable he would have been asleep too. If it weren’t for the fact that it was still early and dim, he would have shut off the light. It looked like Kairi was working on a charm, so she’d need the light anyway. With a nod, he left Sora’s room, refraining from making some comment about keeping her seat warm.

He wondered how nice it would be for Sora to see Kairi first thing in the morning.
