As soon as Pence had gotten the final message from Roxas, he'd been trying to tidy his room. It was a mess, Olette would totally have murdered him if she'd ever seen it like this, and then gotten out big black bags and demanded to go through his entire room and get rid of loads of stuff. Thankfully, it wasn't as bad as it had previously been, what with Hayner gone and all, and Pence managed to get most of the mess under his bed, or stuffed rather untidily into a small and overfilled closet that almost looked like the door was bowing from the strain. He was just about to sort out his desk, which was full of notes, theories, scraps of paper, and a fair amount of photographs before he heard the door knock.

"Uh, just a sec!" he called out, attempting to organize his desk and failing dismally, eventually just giving up and shoving them into a messy pile. Oh well, it was cleaner than it had been ten minutes ago, and that had to count for somethingPence then went over and opened the door, giving Roxas a small smile. He still wasn't sure why ( ... )

Roxas didn't really pick up on Pence's nervousness, although the Nobody did seem pretty awkward in his own right. It was so much easier to be hostile; he didn't have to think about what he was going to say that way.

He looked at Pence, looking momentarily as confused as to what the heck he was doing there as Pence was.

"I just ... wanted to ask you some stuff," he said with an obviously affected shrug.

Pence blinked at Roxas, before nodding, leaning on the door a little. “Uh sure!” he said, obviously not very sure at all about this. He was happy to answer questions if Roxas had them, but last time he’d spoken to Roxas it had spiraled into insults, which Sora had to break up. Pence had almost given up on stretching out his olive branches - which is why he’d not sought Roxas out, mostly keeping to himself lately - but at this time Roxas came to see him first. Pence had just wanted to give him some space, and it obviously had worked, cause here Roxas was, wanting to talk to him. Whether that was a good or a bad thing, Pence wasn’t sure of yet.

He watched Roxas for a moment, before smiling and motioning for him to come in. “You don’t have to stay in the hallway though, y’know,” he teased, cautiously, before moving a little so that Roxas could come in. “But yeah, what did you want to ask me about?”

Roxas edged inside and spent a little longer than he meant to looking around the room, still kind of hesitant.

Just as the silence was starting to get intolerably awkward, he blurted out, "When w - when you were ten years old - did Olette fight with Hayner because she made this - this clay pot at school, and she was really proud of it, and Hayner broke it by accident with his Struggle bat?"

Pence blinked for a second as Roxas spoke, almost taken aback by his comment, before he shook his head slightly as if to shake himself out of his staring, and then shut the door. "Yeah, that happened," he replied, before smiling a little and adding, "Man, Olette was so angry at him! She didn't talk to him for like a whole week and I was stuck in the middle passing messages between them. It was totally awkward."

He almost asked why Roxas knew that, but he took the time to think about it, and well, Roxas had known him, but a virtual version of him, right? The fact that Roxas knew about something that he shouldn't have known about probably meant that they shared memories - or at least had similar 'growing up' experiences. It was probably just like Pence's childhood, but with Roxas etched in. Which was really really weird, but also kinda interesting. But also really really weird. If Roxas knew that, then what else did they 'share'?

"He then tried to glue it back together, and well... that didn't really work..."

Roxas nodded slowly, listening carefully to Pence's reply and kind of glad that he didn't ask why Roxas knew.

"... And then she shouted at him, and even though they didn't make up for a whole week she still has the glued-together pot on a shelf in her room?" He was smiling now, an uncertain little thing hoping for Pence's affirmation.

...Wow. Pence was pretty sure that was the first time he'd seen Roxas actually smile, which of course only made Pence smile wider too. It was the first time he'd felt like they'd actually had a connection - that he wanted to talk to Pence, not because he had to. Maybe they could be friends after all.

Pence laughed a little at the memory, and then nodded. "Yeah! It's still up there... well it was before I left," he shrugged, his smile getting a little smaller before he shook his head.

"I don't understand girls sometimes."

Roxas's smile broadened and he nodded again, more enthusiastically, even though he wasn't sure how to reply to Pence's insistence that he didn't understand girls. Roxas didn't understand Somebodies, period - how they behaved about stuff like that seemed to him to be just as incomprehensible in people of either gender, and he thought it was kind of weird that they couldn't work it out with each other like that.

He'd just disregard it for the time being.

"I remember that," he said, "but it never actually happened to me. I guess I thought DiZ just ... made everything up ... but it's ... good to know that it was real somewhere."

Pence tilted his head a little curiously as Roxas explained how he remembered. DiZ was the person who'd imprisoned him in that virtual world right? It was weird that this DiZ person... knew to give Roxas those memories. He was pretty sure that he couldn't remember a creepy old man watching over everything he did. How would he know what memories to give Roxas? Ones that were similar - or more or less identical - to Pence's?

"How did that DiZ guy know to do that though? I mean, if we've got the same memories and stuff..." he said, mostly to himself as he thought frowning a little. "I mean, how do we know that he didn't just... no I guess that wouldn't have worked," he said frowning again. He'd almost forgotten about that door to the virtual Twilight Town they'd found with Sora. There was probably no way he'd have actually had been friends with Roxas and then got his memory erased or something because there was that virtual world. Still, the whole deal with them sharing memories was bugging him ( ... )

"I don't know ..." Roxas frowned a little as he tried to remember what DiZ - Ansem, whatever - had said. "DiZ ... said he made the fake Twilight Town ... using the hearts of the people in the real Twilight Town." He folded his arms thoughtfully. "That's why everyone was the same ... And that's probably what the deja vu is from. Some ... part of your heart was in the virtual one all along, or it was linked, or something." He shrugged, looking at the floor, and added bitterly, "It always seemed like a lot of trouble to go to, I thought."

Pence nodded as Roxas explained, lifting his hand to stroke his chin thoughtfully. What Roxas was saying made some sense at least, and it certainly would account for the deja vu he'd been having. Plus, it meant that part of him, somewhere, did know Roxas. He'd known who Roxas was all along. It just took him this long to realize it.

"So hey," Pence grinned, making sure that Roxas was paying attention before he continued. "If my part of my heart was in the virtual world all along, thats gotta mean that we're friends, right? Part of me knows you, thats for sure, and I mean, I know I'd like to know you too. I wanna catch up on what I missed," he smiled.
