Sephiroth had had a very bad feeling the moment he had read Vincent's post on the network. Though he had tried to find out what was going on, Vincent had been either too stubborn to say or...Well, the roar and the crash at the end of their conversation put an end to Sephiroth's guessing. He knew little of Chaos as both Vincent and Lucrecia had been reluctant to speak of it to him but what else could it have been?

As soon as the ex-General had heard the final reply from Vincent, he had sprinted out of the door, determined to find Vincent. Chaos. Whatever he was now.

The conversation above his had mentioned going south so that was the direction Sephiroth went, listening out for anything out of the ordinary. Roars. Screams. The screeching of crabs, although hardly out of the ordinary in Manhattan but they always meant trouble.

It did not take as much time as he feared. He heard the sounds of a crab being attacked and ran in that direction. He came out of a side street, skidding slightly as he halted and sending small pebbles and bits of rubble scattering along the ground. He appeared behind the red-cloaked man in time to see him advancing on someone else and going in for the kill.

'Is that...Genesis?' Sephiroth had no time to puzzle over what his friend was doing there.

"Hey! Valentine!" Sephiroth called out, drawing his sword. It was all he had to fight with and Sephiroth had doubts that it be much good - the blade was blunting again and there was a slight wobble in the handle - but there was absolutely no way that he was just going to stand by while that creature killed Genesis.

His hazed vision caught sight of something... familiar in the distance, though he couldn't quite put his finger on exactly who or what it was. Whatever the case, it was bothering him. Mouth now curling into a dog-like snarl, the red-cloaked man released his victim, allowing him to drop to the concrete. Whoever this was now, they were being annoying and he didn't like that.

What colour was his blood~?

The crimson haze thickened as his anger grew, the inhuman man now hunched over and poised for attack, inching towards the other man slowly and growling. The bloodied claw of the gauntlet flexed eagerly. Coherent thought was gone, lost in the depths of that influenced mind.

Sephiroth stood, outwardly calm as the...thing that he had known as Vincent Valentine and now appeared to be something else altogether stalked towards him like a predator hunting its prey. He had faced down all kinds of monsters before. One more did not affect him.

What did affect him was that this was his step-father coming towards him, growling and snarling inhumanly. Though his mother was no longer around, Sephiroth knew he could not kill or even seriously wound him for her sake. He would, however, do what he had to in order to defend himself and keep both himself and Genesis alive.

"That's it, Valentine. Where's the fun in going after the easy prey?" Sephiroth smirked. Genesis probably didn't like being referred to in that way but really, what kind of SOLDIER just stood there when he was getting attacked. At the very least, he should have run if he was not going to fight back.

...Of course, the sight of Vincent in this way was quite unnerving. Sephiroth had known the man thought of himself as little more than a monster but he had not expected to see the kind of monster he could become.

'What triggered it? What changed?' Sephiroth wondered, even as he backed slowly away from monster he had known as Vincent Valentine. His brow creased into a small frown as he attempted to figure it out.

Vincent had asked if his mother had returned. She had not, as far as Sephiroth knew but there had been another arrival from their world. The ex-General's eyes flicked back over to Genesis. Could he have somehow set off this strange behaviour?

A question for another time, he decided. Now was the time to focus on the approaching monster.

Following the loosened and removed clench of jagged claws against his collar, any feeling he could register involved thudding harshly to the ground without as much as a protesting groan. Even then, all he could do was keep his saucer-wide eyes glued to the feral red creature as it backed off --seemingly to the countering voice not too far from his left.

Genesis felt himself cringe slightly upon spotting Sephiroth standing there without as little a hint of alarm in his posture. Even as to why he was here was overwhelming enough. His scowl only deepened in confusion as he made out Sephiroth's words, successfull prompting a sneer. Just who the hell did he think he is? Strutting like a cat.

Waywardly, the copper-haired man found his eyes drift back to the crouching...thing, suddenly remembering the game still wasn't exactly over yet, despite Sephiroth's unusual combination of words. He was talking to it like it was still human. Biting the corner of his lip in silenced contemplation, he guided himself off the ground with the help of a flat palm against the wall -- a movement which enticed a soft groan out of him as he rubbed at his sore side.

Clearly, whatever had overcome Vincent -- there still stood the small possibility that he may have seen it coming. Giving himself a moment to take to his thoughts, he recalled the vague words exchanged between he and the beast-man earlier; Genesis, G, Deepground, Cells...that strange energy wafting about the crimson Brunette like a toxic light...

Before he could even reach a plausible conclusion, his mind skipped to the present, summoning up a lingering, most painful realization.

As if a switch had been set off in Genesis, his stone-set expression of bewilderment and confusion gradually twisted and morphed into something not even he could touch up on - it resembled a flint of anger, dejection, destain and a broken reminisce.

Deepground. This man could really, actually kill him. Another part of Genesis' brain wanted to glare at him, 'really? when'd you find that out? before, or after it had you up against a wall?'

As if posessed by a silently beckoned spirit, his posture straightened, features schooling in accordance to his soft chuckle, directly addressing the creature. If it wanted a fight, then he was game. He shook his head softly, tucking back a tuft of red tresses.

"...Tsk Tsk, settle down..." he shook an index, taking a casual step forward - what was he doing? not even he knew...but, goddess or no goddess, his pride was not something to challenge and get away with, "Vincent...I'm disappointed in you. Letting the cat out so soon? I was the prime Donor of Deepground...or, does you memory fail you? I admit, You caught me off guard the first time...but I cannot fall so easily."

Oh, his nerves were blaring as he smoothly flicked his eyes to Sephiroth, offering a sheepish grin, continuing lightly, "...and you. Our paths still intercept like Crocodiles to Geese...I do not take well to being startled. You know that."

Turning back to the soft growls, he provided a sneer of his own, his smirk catching like wildfire.

Keep to the diversion!

"So, what are you going to do with us, Vincent? Have us huddling before you like dogs?" He teased openly, "Well woof, I say."

Still smirking, he callengingly took another step forward, and deep inside...he wished he was dead and already bloomin' done with

"If you're out to getting more blood, then you will have to work for it."

Back and forth, back and forth, talk talk talk and no action. The silver-haired man's words drove into his mind the most - easy prey - and the other man in red was spared one glance before his attention turned back to the other. The growling grew in volume until he leapt up, ignoring a swipe of the flimsy sword to his arm and landing a deep scratch across the man's open chest.

The blood dripping down his own arm forced a shudder of excitement, and he literally licked his own wound.

Wonderful...

Fuck. It didn't work. It just got worse. It didn't help at all. The masquerade of his surroundings had muted to the sound of ripping flesh, cutting through Genesis' own heart as if it was him that the claws had scathed.

Sephiroth...what did that...no, this wasn't happening. No no no!

The amount of time it took for Genesis to register the creature springing and slashing, had all registered down to a split second of Genesis's eyes exposing themselves to mere slits of their former selves, an instinctive surge resembling mako, crashing into his veins and prompting him to recklessly jump in, leather-clad fingers digging harshly into the man's cloak --

"You gutless bastard!"

-- to catch their fury-beckoned gazes, snarling ferally as he landed a channeled blow to the ensanguined mouth, effectively sending the creature hurdling back to double over against the sleek street floor.

Oh, that felt very damn good at that point. Genesis flexed his knuckles, glares of an icy, cold set of eyes piercing through the crimson man. Not even the thought of Sephiroth's aftershock and injury snapped him out of his mental battle-storm. All he could focus on was the...

Monster. Yes, that's what it was. Monster.

"I told you...you would have to work for it, Vincent." He croaked, the chords of his voice carrying a sickly form of amusement. Oh, nothing was funny, and it would continue to be so...

His breath was still in shambles, his jaw tightened with the rage emanating into the atmosphere in the form of hot puffs of air. His muscles contracted beneath the thick duster leather, his once cooled disposition now twisted into theatrical portrayal of the messages, Killmaimcapacitate! Running so aimlessly in his thoughts like rush hour traffic. in both body and sense, he moved in recklessly, god-damned ready for more.

That thing was going to die in his hands, and he would make sure of it.

He had asked not to be followed, and thus, Ziva did just as she wasn't told, and did. Of course, she had stayed in the shadows and far enough back to not be seen, but she had noticed that something seemed off. Of course, when he had asked for advice on where to go, it had caught her attention.

Now, she lingered in the background, watching as things unfolded. Realizing that she may have put herself in a position she shouldn't be in, she stayed hidden, although willing to throw herself out in the open if she needed. Seemed like the other two had a good handle on the situation, at least as far as she could see.

"Hey, get away from him!"

A small blur of colour shot past Sephiroth, coming to a stop between Vincent - who had really seen better days, she had to admit, but after some of his freakier Limit Breaks this was actually pretty normal - and Genesis - who she had no idea about except that generally guys like him were bad news. Also he'd just punched Vincent in the face, so that was another mark against him. To summarise: the whole situation stank, and here she was in the middle of it because all the guys in her life were raging idiots. And possessed by creepy science experiments.

"I mean it! Stay over there." She twisted, so she would be able to watch all of them at once, and tried for her most ferocious expression. It wasn't that great, considering that she couldn't change her rather diminutive height or that her weapon was a war fan, but she'd be damned if this wasn't getting sorted out. "Vincent, snap out of it."

Sephiroth watched the inhuman creature look between him and Genesis, trying to decide who to attack first. But before he could make his move, the choice was made and he was the one attacked. As fast as he tried to dodge backward, Sephiroth was just not quick enough and his chest was ripped open by savage claws, drawing a surprised and pained cry from his lips.

Before he had much time to react, Genesis had grabbed Vincent and had punched him and then Yuffie appeared, darting past him to put herself between Genesis and Vincent.

'Idiotic ninja...'

As much as Sephiroth disliked Yuffie, he had no desire to see her die. Perhaps humiliated as she had humiliated him but truthfully, Sephiroth would just be happy if she stayed far, far away from him. That was not possible for the moment though, so he just shot her a glare and otherwise ignored her.

"Genesis, don't kill him," the silver haired man ordered. He was unsure whether Genesis would have killed Valentine or not but he had to be sure the man knew not to.

Turning his attention back to Vincent, Sephiroth tapped his sword point on the ground, trying to catch his attention. He still kept one hand up to his chest, the blood running over his glove and between his fingers.

"Hey, Valentine. I'm over here," he called out, smirking despite the pain. This was better than any battle he had had with the crabs around here. It was somehow more invigorating to be up against the monster inside his stepfather.

Many targets now. So many. The beast snarled and glanced at each and every one of them, confused and unsure of who to strike next. The punch had hurt and he wanted to make that human hurt just as much as he did, but then someone smaller and weaker had appeared and the silver-haired one was back up, trying to call to him. Near-foaming at the mouth, he backed up, claw raised to just take them all out in one single blow when the she-human spoke. Wincing, the man clutched at his head, feeling a pang of something... familiar.

Snap out of it!

"...fie... Yu... ff..."

Confused, he shook his head, the crimson aura still as strong as ever and the bloodlust still apparent on his face. Whatever that had been, it was gone now, and he just wanted to kill! Easy prey, easy prey... definately the girl. Ignore her. The red one managed to take him down...

He would be next.

Despite the silver-haired man's taunting, the beast instead lunged at the human in red, planting a punch of his own and another kick, this time to his chest. Not satisfied with simple combat against one person, the man turned again on the silver one, roaring and attempting another swipe at his face.

But then he twitched. And stopped mid-strike. The extended claw extended and flexed as his mind fought with itself, the man inside struggling to regain control. Names flowed through his head, too fast to remember, and he stumbled back, groaning and growling.

Whoever was the little brat which seemed to appear before him, Genesis was almost surprised. Almost. He would have almost brought himself to laugh at the weak attempt to defend the feral being. In his small amusement, his guard had let out quite a bit...enough to miss those next hits meeting him.

The trip which sent him against the wall, knocked him breathless and rendered his legs weak beneath him. He cursed softly as he clutched his chest, knees crashing to the floor.

That smarted. He should have known better. Since coming to this dreaded, back-of-the-sink world, his very cosmic identity was replaced by a dull shadow; weak, cold and barely there. Here, he was powerless. That hurt and angered now more than ever.

When he raised his head enough to throw a glance at Sephiroth, again, relaxation was practically his middle name. Growling softly, the redhead threw his best scowl across as he helped himself up with the help of the chapped wall.

Whatever the hell was going on now, it seemed to involve more and more people by the minute. It was the kind of attention Genesis was never known to include himself into. He blamed that man over there; standing by, talking to that thing as if it meant something to him. If it did, it was sure as hell beyond Genesis' knowledge. That just made him want to snap at the silver-haired observer, to tell him things that would go deep into his bone; things he had never heard himself say before.

But, when his attention snapped to the ecstatically-charged movements of Vincent...he appeared as if wanting to crush his own head by the way he'd gripped it.

Something cold and detached in Genesis had most certainly hoped he would...though, he kept his words to himself, only taking to flick his eyes over to Sephiroth.

"Well then, hero..." He tried, eyes narrowing with his glare to the man as he shifted his footing, "If you wish to stay and exercise your chances at sugar-coating your attacker...I won't stop you. Really. I won't." Yeah, the frustration was too obvious for anyone to ignore, especially Genesis himself.

He was fucking tired, and that was all there was to it.

Giving out a soft sigh, he closed his eyes for a moment, before heading towards Sephiroth's place of standing and walking past him -- not even offering another glance.

"...just, don't take too long. I'm not wont to leave the door open at 3 in the morning.*

Not that he was worried. No way, not him. Definitely not.

Sephiroth frowned, almost snarling in anger, as his attempt at distraction failed and he saw Genesis get attacked. But Genesis was a grown man and a SOLDIER First Class. He could handle a beating. Sephiroth just did not want to see those claws rip him open. That would be a most unwelcome sight.

And then Vincent turned on him, claws raised on level with his head and Sephiroth instinctively jerked backwards to avoid being hit. But the strike did not come down. Something had made him stop dead, seconds from tearing Sephiroth's face off.

The silver haired man stared him down, watching silently as the man within warred with the beast who had taken control.

He was aware of Genesis getting up and walking past him and he heard the words loud and clear but he did not dare take his eyes off the dangerous, inhuman figure in front of him. He didn't glare after the man as he wished to. It was not Genesis's fault that he did not know what Vincent Valentine was to him - stepfather, annoyance and someone he could respect though he barely liked the man. The monster inside Valentine was a different matter, of course, but Sephiroth could not, would not, allow any lasting harm to come to him for Lucrecia's sake if nothing more, no matter how long it took. If Genesis locked him out of their room, so be it.

"He is my stepfather, Genesis," Sephiroth said quietly, not wishing to provoke another attack if Valentine was going to go for his face again. "He married my mother."

He switched his attention fully back to Valentine. "You remember her, don't you? Lucrecia Crescent. And your friend here, Yuffie Kisaragi. Who could forget her?"

The silver haired man's tone implied that he would quite happily forget Yuffie if that were possible but he mentioned her because she was there and could help bring Vincent back to himself probably better than Sephiroth could. They were hardly the best of friends since they could barely tolerate each others presence at the best of times but Yuffie would know him better. His gaze flicked briefly to the ninja girl, standing there with a war fan, and wondered what, if anything , she was planning to do.

It really had gotten to the point that Yuffie could pinpoint the exact moment when someone dismissed her as no threat. There was a certain shifting, or they'd stop keeping her in their sights; as if she suddenly didn't exist. And boy, it made her mad every single time. She sent a dark look after the man in red, though him leaving could really only help at this point, and went back to the important people in this.

Who were... talking. That was weird. Actually, seeing Sephiroth do anything but mutter weird stuff about Jenova or laugh at them was never going to get any less disturbing, as much as she'd managed to adjust to living in the same building as the guy for over a month. Seeing whatever he was saying work was even weirder. There had been that moment of recognition when she'd first appeared from Vincent, but it figured he'd be difficult and need more than her brilliant self to snap out of it.

"T-that's right!" She recovered quickly, running around to catch Vincent's eye even as she pulled a face at Sephiroth for his veiled insult, "Hey! Remember Nero? When he did that dark dimension magic, and I freaked out? I still haven't paid you back for that, so you'd better not lose it before I can-." After a moment's struggle with self-preservation, she leaned in to shake one finger severely under his nose, a little too close to fangs for her liking, but what was a girl to do, "And besides, I don't think you're allowed to out-crazy Sephiroth. He'll get jealous."

Almost as if he were a child throwing a tantrum, the red-cloaked man threw himself forward and slammed still-glowing palms onto the concrete, the claws cracking the hardened rock some. Whatever humanity was left inside of him, it was fighting. And Chaos didn't like it. Not fully understanding the others' words, the ex-Turk snarled and attempted a swipe at the young girl, the movement only half-heartedly as he continued to struggle with himself. There was... something inside of him. Something telling him to leave the ninja girl alone. At that moment, he couldn't fully grasp why exactly, but he couldn't bring himself to kill her.

One left. The silver one was still standing.

If he couldn't take her out, then he'd just go for the alternative.

Pushing the girl out of the way, he charged, somewhat faster than before, and attempted another swipe at the silver-haired man, digging sharp fangs into the other man's shoulder if that failed. If he was going to attack, he needed something, and the girl was off-limits. Leaping back, the ex-Turk gave out another inhuman roar before charging again, determined to make this human dead.

Sephiroth was convinced Yuffie was either mad, supremely confident that she would not get attacked or both as she confronted Vincent the way she did. He wondered if she counted herself lucky to be pushed out of the way because he certainly didn't.

Vincent's teeth sank deeply into his shoulder and Sephiroth cried out in pain, sinking to his knees under the attack. His sword dropped from his hand and clanged on the ground, leaving Sephiroth defenceless.

"Valen...tine..." he gasped out, grimacing in pain and glaring at the monster.

As the creature roared, Sephiroth readied himself to jump away. He got back to his feet a bit unsteadily and only succeeded in stumbling sideways as Chaos charged.

Oh, that jerk. Never listening to her, then he goes and bites... sure, she didn't try too hard to stifle the surge of satisfaction, but it wasn't like anyone expected her not to be vindictive. Then again, she was meant to be under the same truce, and this really was getting out of hand. Something was still keeping him from attacking a friend, even though he was glowing with the Limit and, you know, had just bitten Sephiroth. She was willing to let that go, but the fact remained that he had given her an advantage, and what kind of ninja was she if she let it slide?

In the short time it took her to work that out, and a few seconds before she could stop and remember what a bad idea it was, she was over to him again - Yuffie Kisaragi, best Vincent-catcher there is - and between him and Sephiroth.

"Sorry about this," she managed, before drawing her hand back like an angry snake and then slapping him as hard as she could; the sound of her palm connecting actually produced a sound loud enough to echo. She lowered her arm, but didn't step back or look any less determined.
