Or did he just want himself to believe that?
He struggled with it everyday, how... different things could have been if he had made a difference in changing Sephiroth's life for the better. A way for him to have been born and not corrupted by an alien virus... a way of saving Lucrecia from destroying herself. He knew the answer to calming his frustrations at least; wait until Hojo showed up and snap his neck. That was all.
Losing himself in his own thoughts again, he quickly turned back to the brunette when he realized she was speaking to him. His mind immediately went back to some of the others who had said the same in return. Needing to, wanting to... the one instance where the two defintions were the same. But for others to put themselves at risk for him? He wouldn't tolerate that.
"I can just... tell." He replied quietly, looking down at the plush couch. "There's something about you, something that told me to come despite having just met you. It's strange."

And it really wasn't, some people seemed to judge her most of the times based on her appearance and think that she wouldn't be able to hurt anyone and thus trust her, but her closest friends hadn't allowed appearances to lead their judgment of her especially the ones from the Timber Owls and the Garden, she had after all been a girl that had betrayed her father and government, they had seen beyond that to trust her and that was what had made her appreciate them all the more.
"To answer your question, I offer to help you because my heart tells me that I can trust you, I can't explain it exactly but I realized it when you came to see me." With a small sigh she leaned against the couch, gazing at a random spot ahead of her "If I'm wrong and you turn against me, which I hope that you won't, well I will take my chances."
She was being sincere and she was sure her tone showed that just like it hinted that she had still wanted to say more but she didn't, it was a bit shameful to admit that his presence had made her feel less lonely and that his company was more than welcome for her since she didn't know a lot of people in this place.

"I did owe you." He replied, sounding a bit amused. Owed her and ran off to nearly die. He definately had to make up for that happening. "What kind of a person would I be if I just broke a promise?"
A monster.
A freak
Too much backstabbing in the past. Far too much, and he was fed up with it. "You're very soft-spoken. Patient. I can talk to you easily, somehow, and you do remind me of a couple people with all this talk of trust and whatnot." Home, and in the city. His own friends and the friends he made... it seemed strange to think it had all happened in the span of nearly four years now. All of these people...
The world changes in strange ways.

"...You owed me nothing, Vincent." She finally said after a little while and it was the truth, she really didn’t considered that he did and didn’t understood exactly why he thought that "Also, I don't have to think in what kind of person you will be since you did came after all."
The only person that had broken a promise to her had ironically been her father when she had been only a child and for awhile there she had kind of lost her faith on such vows if it hadn't been for Zone and the rest of the Timber Owls that pretty much revived it.
A small smile appeared on her face "That's very sweet of you to say and I also feel that I can talk with you..." A small sigh escaped her lips then "...It's been awhile since I have properly talked with anyone or had proper company...I was starting to feel a bit lonely."
There, she had finally admitted it out loud and she just hoped he didn't thought she was weird or something.

"Lonely?" He asked, confusion lining his tone. "...how could you be lonely when you have so many friends here? Friends that care about you." He shrugged a bit, attempting to get more confortable in his position. "I'll stay as long as you'd like, Rinoa."

She flinched and tensed a bit at his question "...I don't know a lot of people here, Vincent; therefore I don't have a lot of friends."
It was the truth, since she had arrived she hadn't met a lot of people, she had been mostly keeping to herself mostly due to her status as a sorceress without a knight, still she attempted to smile a bit at his last comment.
"That's a very dangerous proposition, Mr. Valentine." Slowly and looking a bit teasingly thoughtful she pushed a strand of hair behind her ear "What if anyone wants you to stay forever?"

"I don't know if I could be anybody's friend. If so, not a very good one. But you have my trust, and I won't turn on you." Meant to be reassuring, though when it came to subjects like friendship, he was at a complete loss. Maybe someone more like Tifa or Sora would be better at this type of thing.
A small, amused breath escaped his lips at the formality, not hearing as much since his early days in the Turks, and from Fletcher from time to time. Normally, he would have protested against it - the simple mention brought up unwanted memories - though he pushed it aside, realizing it wasn't important. "Then they'd get pretty bored pretty fast. Especially since I can't do anything special on this world."

"You're my friend no? And I think you will be a good one, so don't worry about it." She smiled at him, something that was starting to become a bit easier the more time they spent together "Well trust is one of the most important things in a friendship and if we have that we will be fine."
With a slight smirk, she lightly poked his arm, it was maybe an all too familiar action and one that she hoped was friendly enough, she was still trying to figure what was okay to do with him or not "I don't know, I think you're interesting and you’re trying to help, that's more than enough."

He was... interesting? He unconsciously turned to his arm when she poked it, curious at what she had meant. Most he had come across labeled him 'freaky', or weird. Interesting? That had definately been a new one.
"What exactly do you mean?" He asked politely. Had nothing better to do, might as well hear her out.

"Well I meant what I said, there's something about you that calls my attention and I can't put my finger on what it is." She started a bit softly and carefully, while she looked away "I find that interesting, in a good way of course."
She hoped that was enough of an answer for him, but it was the truth, she did found him interesting.

Only one, but. Another story for another time, after all.
"And if it's that, then I'm taken."
