Kairi was half-awake. She'd been laying in bed for a long time. Something was bothering her and just barely keeping her awake with a nagging tug in her chest.
Closing her eyes, she pulled the covers around her. She smiled as she grew warm. It almost felt as if the blanket wasn't even there.
Light. What's wrong with my lamp? She felt comfortable enough she didn't want to get out of bed to fix it. However, Kairi felt little uncomfortable, like she'd managed to find every lump in her mattress at once. With a soft groan she tried to toss back the covers, but found they weren't there. Confused, the girl opened her eyes a moment.
The sun blanketed the beach with its warmth.
Groggy, she closed her eyes again for a brief second. Wait... That wasn't a dream?!
Kairi sat up in a hurry, finding herself now cold and her arm scratched by asphalt. That much was already a mistake, and she suddenly felt dizzy. She tried to regain herself, finding she was in the shadow of a skyscraper. "...How did I end up here?" Stumbling to her feet, Kairi held her head. "Where...? Manhattan. Right." She felt like she couldn't think straight. The very name of the city seemed foreign in her mouth.
She knew she'd been here before, and for a long time. She remembered she wanted to leave it terribly and get all her friends home-
"Sora. Riku." It felt like a dream. No, a nightmare. And they were stuck here too.
Kairi reeled and braced herself against a light post. "...I've got to get home."
