Just because he wasn't part of any team here, that didn't mean he didn't have to practice. When he got back to Japan (because he WOULD get back to Japan, eventually, he knew he would), he had to be at the top of his game!
However, it was hard...really hard...to find people willing to let him tackle them, due to a rash of suddenly having something to do. And there were no practice tackle dummies around (he'd looked)--he'd given tackling trash cans a try, but that usually ended up with him getting a face full of old coffee grounds. All in all, it was making him consider, as he tossed a ball to himself, a change in character class.
He was tall enough to be a good receiver, he was sure, now all he needed to do was be able to catch a pass... He turned the ball over, considered it...then lobbed it high in the air, running forward a few paces--and was promptly smacked directly in the face by the falling ball.
Rubbing his nose, he picked up the ball and tried again. There was a reason it was called "practice."
