Daniel walked into Seventh Heaven a happy man. After everything that had happened in the past two weeks - and beyond that - he relished the chance to actually sit down and relax. He was even out of his SG-1 uniform; the olive drab BDUs and Kevlar vest were replaced with a nice casual brown long-sleeved shirt, jeans, and a black windbreaker he had purloined from an abandoned Macy's. He'd kept his combat boots, though. And of course his pipe. You didn't go out for any occasion around here with some sort of bashing implement.

A number of people were already there, and Daniel didn't feel like butting into any conversation. So he wandered over to the bar and ordered a drink, and watched. Sometimes it was nice to just sit and watch. Of course, he was also waiting to see if anyone felt like striking up a conversation. Either was was fine by him for the moment.

It took information to survive in any setting, and that was one thing the mage lacked. So when he saw what appeared to be a tavern, bustling with activity, he naturally gravitated towards it, walking in with his staff tapping along the floor before settling in at the bar. Rather than order anything alcoholic, however, Raistlin ordered merely a glass of hot water, pulling out a small leather pouch of herbs and stirring some into the tea. The resultant mixture was a foul ichor color, and smelled horrific.

He turned to regard Daniel out of the corner of his eye, his hood raised and obscuring his features. "Are you also one who arrived? Or are you native to this world?" he asked.

Daniel eyed the newcomer beside him suspiciously. The man was wearing some sort of cloak like he was trying for an aura of mystery; Daniel felt like he was sitting next to someone from Lord of the Rings all of a sudden. And then he ordered plain hot water, and dumped something into it that...looked and smelled nasty. Daniel tried very hard to be polite and not gag, instead burying his nose in his own drink.

Then the man spoke to him, and Daniel had to seriously repress a sigh. Honestly. One evening to relax and unwind after all of the strangness they'd just gone through, and of COURSE the one extremely strange guy he's never met decides to come and talk to him. Such was his life.

Still, the archeologist wasn't going to be rude by ignoring the question, and he made sure to keep his face free of any signs of his mild aggravation. "Yes, I came here from somewhere else. Are you new here?" That would explain a lot; new people were popping up pretty frequently.

"Quite new," Raistlin replied in amusement, sipping from the glass. Immediately he pulled a face. Not even he was used to the disgusting mixture, necessary though it was sometimes. It was certainly necessary now, however, as the new place (wherever they were), had deemed fit to play havoc with the wizard's lungs.

"It tastes even worse than it smells," he muttered, staring at the drink a moment. Then, smirking, he glanced back up at Daniel, his golden eyes flashing from beneath his cloak.

"People must be constantly coming and going, given the reactions of people here. It's odd enough to find oneself in an entirely new world, but to likewise meet people from one's own future must be ... difficult."

Daniel eyed the drink and felt something like relief to know that at least even the guy drinking it thought it was nasty. He couldn't believe anyone would actually ingest something that noxious, but at least he wasn't enjoying it. That would be just plain wrong.

When the man flashed a glance his way, Daniel wasn't really bothered by the golden color he glimpsed. There were people here with vibrant blue hair; golden eyes were not going to surprise him at this point.

Shrugging, Daniel stared thoughtfully into his glass as he answered. "Yeah, there is definitely a steady flow of people coming through here. I actually don't know about too many people leaving, or at least it's not common knowledge." An eyebrow raised at the man's last comment. "You met someone from your future here? I'd heard about that happening, but it's pretty rare."

"Yes," Raistlin replied, downing the rest of his bitter tea. "According to him, I have been dead for years."

Daniel blinked. Hadn't expected that one. "Wow. That must have been an interesting meeting, then."

"He'll not tell me more on the matter, but I hardly worry about it," Raistlin continued. "By sending me to this world, and having me speak to someone from my future, whatever force has brought us here has put me on the path to changing it."

Daniel thought about that for a moment. Having had some experience with time travel himself, he wondered if that were indeed true. "Well, that's certainly possible. However, what if coming here is a part of what leads to your death, after all? Maybe finding out doesn't change the events that lead up to it." He didn't say it to anger the man; the archeologist was basically philosophising out loud.

"Improbable," Raistlin replied. "The gods do not approve of outside interference with the affairs of Krynn. However, internal meddling seems to be something they have no qualms with. My spell was carrying me back in time before I arrived here. I know for a fact that my spell did not go awry. What has happened here is unpredictable, an anomaly." He set his glass aside, ignoring the last few dregs at the bottom of the mug.

"Magic and time both seem complex, but to their masters they are very simple things, with merely a number of rules protecting them. Perhaps you are right, that learning of my death could lead to my death. But as I know what endeavors I was pursuing carried any risk, I can narrow my options down, and thus pursue a less dangerous course of action, or simply become better than circumstances allow."

Daniel quirked an eyebrow as he listened to the strange man's logic. "...Well, I can't really give an argument one way or the other on that," Daniel said at last. "I'm pretty sure we don't have the same gods in my world." He stared into his empty glass, rattling the ice around a bit while he thought. "...From personal experience, time travel seems to be more detailed than that. It has a habit of looping back around so that the timeline is undamaged." He shrugged. "Really, though, I can't say. Time isn't one of those things that is easy to figure out, so I generally leave those problems to the astrophysicists."

He paused a moment longer, then added, "I WOULD argue that your arriving here wasn't an accident or anomaly. Everyone who arrived here seems to have been picked somehow. I myself was just walking down a hallway like I do everyday, and then I suddenly found myself here. I've heard of other people with even more 'convenient' stories."

"I was traveling time's path when I arrived here, heading to the beginning of a bygone era," Raistlin replied. "Time travel is something only the most powerful wizards in my world dare attempt, and only I alone may travel time without fear of recrimination or suffering."

"Huh. That's pretty interesting." He felt like he was talking to a wizard out of a fantasy series now. Daniel flagged down the bartender for another beverage. "So I'm told that people with powers find them severely powered down when they come here. Have you had any affects like that?" He grinned. "I'm just a mere mortal, myself, so I didn't have any such problems. Although they did take my P90."

"I have suffered no adverse affects of arriving here that I have noticed. Is that unusual?"

Daniel looked at him, both eyebrows raised. "Yeah, actually. Every person I've talked to with any sort of special abilities has complained about losing some of their abilities." He thought for a moment, then suggested, "Maybe you should try to do a spell or something? Might be good to be sure of how much you can do. Especially in a place like this."

"I do not have that many spells prepared at this moment, but, if you believe it to be a wise course of action, I shall cast something," Raistlin replied. Plucking a small piece of quartz from one of his many pouches, Raistlin began chanting over the stone, before squeezing and (shockingly) crushing it.

"There." He cast eyes about for a suitable target before seeing one right before him. It was a rather large spider, having climbed out of hiding beneath the bar counter to forage for prey, likely. Without hesitation, the mage touched it, and the spider suddenly became still and grey.

"Here," Raistlin said, handing the now-stone spider to Daniel, "a souvenir to demonstrate that my power is yet untouched."
