Pearl had never expected to have a pet of any kind; her mother would never have allowed it. Only the most proper of things could have been given to her while Morgan was looking after her. And Mr. Nick could barely take care of Charley, let alone a dog. He didn't have time for anything other than his cases and Mystic Maya.

This Pearl was certain of.

So the sight of Bolt on the other side of the glass brought a touched smile to the little girl's face. She was really excited at this new arrangement. Bolt could probably look after her, too, and that would help Mystic Maya --

Pearl's thought was effectively cut off at the sudden sound behind her and the appearance of a... was that a girl? Whatever it was, the sight and sound had come so fast that they startled Pearl out of her mind for a split moment. She leaped backwards, shoving the door a little further back before scrambling away and turning to fully face the girl once she was a good distance away. Of course, this meant that when she jumped away, her small hands let go of the door.

Even as Pearl's expression turned perfectly neutral and her arms rested at her sides, she couldn't help but hope the door wasn't going to smack the... other girl in the face.

Ty Lee saw the door closing a mile away (her sudden appearance probably would have startled anyone, really) and was more than prepared. No face-smacking today! But at the same time she wasn't going to try to beat the door to closing. Instead, she swung backwards and flipped off the overhang to her feet, landing in a crouch down on one knee. The door closed behind her just after she landed, so it was possible that Bolt and the girl inside could have seen at least some parts of her acrobatics act.

Of course, it wasn't long before she knocked on the door like a normal person. But this was a lot more fun.

Pearl's smile made Bolt smile all the more. It always made him feel better to see little girls happy.

Bolt had never really considered himself to be Penny's pet, but that was mostly because he felt like there was something deeper between them than just pet and person.

While the girl didn't really look or sound threatening, Bolt instinctually put himself between her and Pearl. Of course, it hardly mattered, as she accidentally closed the door on her. Or almost did. She must've been okay, however, as a knock soon followed.

Bolt glanced up at Pearl curiously. "You wanna get that?"

The new girl was really starting to confuse Pearl. She flipped around like she was some sort of ... of... something really flexible that Pearl couldn't quite come up with the name for. The little girl glanced at Bolt nervously before nodding once and slowly making her way to the door. No expression showed on her face as she pulled open the door again to let the girl in, but as soon as there was space enough to do so, Pearl offered an apology, something she never would have done when she first met Mr. Nick.

Really, he'd done wonders for her confidence.

"I'm sorry for slamming the door in your face."

Acrobat. Acrobat was the word Pearl was looking for. But it was okay. Ty Lee wasn't going to get mad -- after all, she had come out of pretty much nowhere. Pearl's reaction made sense. So when Pearl opened the door, all Ty Lee did was smile back sincerely.

"It's okay. My name's Ty Lee. Mind if I come in?"

Well, she was certainly forward.

The girl was fast...she'd moved in enough time to avoid getting a facefull of door, and appeared to be none the worse for it. Even most of the villains he'd fought hadn't been able to move like that.

'Forward' was right. With where he'd been living for awhile, Bolt was not at all used to people just randomly showing up and wanting to hang out where others lived. It was likely the norm for large hotels such as this one, but it still made him just a touch nervous.

He peered closely at Ty Lee, as if he could figure out her motivations just from staring long enough (the same way he could explode things just by staring long enough.) "Were you following me?"

On the one hand, Pearl was a little worried, but the girl didn't seem to be upset about anything, nor did she seem mean. On the other hand, Pearl was still a little cautious and the way Bolt was looking at the taller girl made the littler one nervous.

So Pearl wouldn't let go of the door until after Ty Lee had walked in and then she'd move back behind where Bolt was standing. If something bad were to happen, at least Bolt would be able to protect her until she found help.

"A little bit." But it wasn't such a big deal, really. Was it? "We don't really have animals like you where I'm from." Oddly enough, the part where he could talk wasn't actually what she meant! "So I was curious." So throw her in the Boiling Rock already, jeez.

"If you don't want me here, I could leave. I just don't really have much to do, so I thought I'd head out and meet some new people." And yeah, yeah, they probably weren't all that new to the city. "If I haven't met you, you're new to me."

He could stop staring at Ty Lee any time he wanted.

It may not have been a big deal here, but Bolt was still getting off the instinct to watch out for people who might be following you. Despite the advice to try and be a normal dog, he still didn't quite know how yet.

But oh well, there was that talking dog thing again. "Where I'm from people aren't used to talking dogs, either," Bolt sighed. "Even me. I guess it's not that different here."

She didn't seem dangerous to Bolt, so he relaxed some. He sat down again close to Pearl, tail wagging. He didn't say one way or another if she should leave. "How did you do that trick?"

Bolt's tail was wagging a little, so Pearl relaxed slightly, unconsciously moving closer to Bolt as she listened. They weren't scary people... er the dog wasn't scary and neither was the girl named Ty Lee. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad.

A calm expression slid onto Pearl's face as she relaxed, showing the hints of a smile as she stood there. "Talking dogs don't exist where I'm from, but Bolt is nice." She smiled down at him for a short moment before glancing back up at Ty Lee, as if expecting her to agree with that statement.

One hand strayed close to where Bolt was sitting and she scratched his head gently, more to comfort herself than anything. She still wasn't one hundred percent sure of Ty Lee, but for now she was willing to give the girl the benefit of the doubt.

"Talking?" Ty Lee asked, confused. "No, I mean the part where you're a dog, and not, like. A dog-weasel or badger-dog or something." Yeah, her home was a little weird. But it wasn't all that bad. It never was. Wherever Ty Lee was, she made it work out.

And finally paying more attention to the other girl there, Ty Lee gave her a smile. "Bolt? I like his name. What's yours?" If there was one thing Ty Lee was going to work on, it was winning this girl over.

The 'Bolt is nice' comment made his tail wag faster. Like any dog, Bolt loved affirmation. He smiled back at her when she smiled, and instantly leaned in when she scratched at his head, making a sort of happy whine. There were far too few people in this city that bothered to pet or scratch him (maybe because of the strangeness involved with petting a talking dog), but it was one of the fastest ways to make him happy.

"A dog-weasel?" He replied, confused. That sounded like some sort of vile mutation that Dr. Calico would come up with. It was hard to imagine that being the norm anywhere. "That sounds even stranger..."

She liked his name, though, and that made him even happier.

Bolt's tail wagged more and Pearl relaxed even further. The fact that her companion was relaxing more made her relax in turn and she was starting to not mind this so much anymore. Even the confusion over the dog-weasel didn't really bother her, though her expression turned confused for a moment.

Eventually, she turned calm again, hand still barely scratching Bolt's head since he seemed to like it so much. Ty Lee's smile was nice to see, too, and Pearl offered a tentative one in return.

"Um..." She paused at the question of her name, as though she weren't sure if she should answer or not, but after a moment, she did anyway. "I'm Pearl... Fey." The last name was tacked on after a second's hesitation, mainly because she wasn't used to people not knowing she was a Fey.

"It's not as weird as you'd think!" she piped up defensively in reply to Bolt's comment. But since he didn't seem to take it too hard, if the smiling and tail-wagging were any indication, she let it go. Maybe once she got to know Pearl a bit better, Ty Lee would get in on some of the head-scratching action.

"Fey?" That name sounded familiar. Right! The mayor! Or, well, she wasn't really the mayor, but a lot of people thought she was, and that was close enough for government work. Heh. Ty Lee treaded with caution, since she noticed Pearl's pause. Maybe the name didn't have the best things associated with it. She knew what that was like. "Like Mia?"

He kept leaning into the scratching, indicating that he was always happy to receive more. Although she seemed to have a little bit of nervousness about her...not as bad as Eve had been, but still not quite as boisterous as Penny.

"It sounds like hybrid animals to me..." Bolt said quietly. He still wasn't quite used to all there was to this other-dimensions-stuff.

Bolt knew a little about Mia, as he'd gone to the meeting she'd had at the ice skating rank and she seemed capable, but not much beyond that. He supposed she must be a younger sister, or maybe cousin or niece. Had there really been that many people here who also had family members around?

Pearl wasn't trying to ignore Bolt by any means, as she did enjoy his company and he was a nice dog. However, she was too distracted by the mentioning of Mystic Mia to hear what Bolt had said. Apparently, Ty Lee knew her cousin, though whether this was a good thing or not, Pearl wasn't sure. It took her a moment to remember again that Mystic Mia wasn't dead here.

"Mystic Mia is my cousin," the little girl affirmed, still letting her hand scratch and pet Bolt's head. He was really being good for her confidence right now. Mystic Maya would have been proud of her.

"Um..." She paused for a moment, bringing one of her hands up to her mouth so she could suck on her thumb nervously for a moment. "Do you know her?"
