Then Kida slumped over on the floor, run through with exhaustion, and Daniel's curiosity immediately twisted into alarm. Bolting upright (and this time not even noticing the absense of pain) he said in a worried voice, "Kida?" Then she went still. Concern and panic swirled over Daniel's consciousness, and he slid off the couch and onto his knees, lifting the barely-conscious woman's head onto his lap. "Kida, can you hear me? Crap, you didn't say you were tired, why didn't I see..." He muttered this last part to himself, scolding his lack of observation.
Ripping the blood-soaked sheet off the couch, Daniel bent down and gathered her up off the floor, one hand behind her shoulders and the other under her knees. Ignoring the lingering, much less severe pain of his remaining cuts and bruises, Daniel quickly and carefully transferred her onto the couch where he had just lain. Then he rose to his feet and bent over herfeeling her forehead and trying to catch her blank gaze. "Okay, Kida, just relax...you've exhausted yourself, you need to rest. Can you speak?"
He hoped to everything good in the universe that she hadn't done herself permanent damage, or he was going to feel guilty for the rest of his life for bringing this down on her.

This was certainly a disconcerting feeling. Kida felt no pain, nor was she numb. She could feel when Daniel picked up her limp form. And yet, despite all this, her muscles could not respond. Almost all the energy from her body had flowed out through her crystal. Breathing alone seemed to take a little more effort than it should.
"...I can." She closed her eyes a moment, mentally counting the three slow breaths as if she were watching second pass on a clock. Kida opened her eyes after the alloted time. "Is it finished?" She didn't move, but her eyes flickered to Daniel's leg.

Standing, he walked into her kitchen to look for anything that he could use to help. He grabbed a cup from the sink and filled it with water, then quickly returned to the couch.
As he walked, he couldn't help but stretch his leg and roll his shoulder, marveling in the sudden health and comfort that had for so long been absent from his limbs. Whatever power Kida had used, it was definitely something amazing! Surely it didn't wear her out this much where she came from, if what he had heard about the muting of magical abilities was true. If that was so, imagine what she was capable of in her home reality!
Lowering himself onto one knee beside the couch, he spoke gently to the prone woman, "Do you want some water? You look alright, hopefully some rest will get you back on your feet soon."

“It will.” Kida grunted softly and arm moved about an inch as she tried fruitlessly to move it underneath her. Looking mildly frustrated, she found herself able to lift her head a little, and that caused her to smile slightly. “Thank you.” She slowly swung the arm laying on her side a the elbow, flexing her fingers. It looked like she was testing to see if she could hold the cup.

When it became obvious that she still hadn't regained all of her motor skills, Daniel helped her take a drink from the glass and prop herself up on the couch. They sat there for a while as she regained strength, Daniel staying silent to help discourage from unnecessary talking.
When Kida seemed to have started recovering properly, Daniel couldn't help but venture the question. "What DID you do? With that crystal? Are you a magic-user, or is it something else?" He eyed the beautiful glowing crystal with obvious interest - even wonder. Whatever this device was, it somehow gave this woman amazing abilities to heal, and he couldn't help but be curious about it.

When he helped her drink, she expressed her gratitude verbally. During the silence, however, she occasionally closed her eyes, not quite falling asleep, but certainly far from alert. She gained some energy, but it was clear she needed outright sleep.
Kida narrowed her eyes with mild confusion. "Magic-user?" It was true, this ability used the science and magic of the Mother Crystal. "...I may be," she began hesitantly, "but I am unsure if I understand the meaning." After a moment's pause, she continued, "However, I can afford to tell you little. As I said, this must be kept secret." Though her look was serious, she looked very tired. Even with movement returning, her energy seemed low and her still-somewhat limited movements were sluggish.
[OOC: Technically she's not, but she doesn't understand.]

Daniel frowned slightly. Why did she feel the need to be careful about that? But then...Sora had had the same reservation, so maybe they had similar reasoning. "
He blinked once at her question, not comprehending it for a minute. (It was such a common phrase to him that it momentarily surprised him that she didn't know it, you see.) Then realization dawned on him, and he barked a laugh and shook his head. He explained simply, "Not, a 'breather' is like telling someone to catch their breathe; basically it's a nickname for a break. You should have taken a break first instead of doing both bites at once."
Daniel could tell that Kida was tired, probably in need of sleep, and he didn't want to press her for information right now. But he did feel he owned her a little more of an explanation. "As far as I know," he said, apologetic for his lack of more knowledge on the matter, "there are people around the island who use magic to do different things, and some of them who can heal are the only ones who can heal the crab bites. So I was wondering if that's the source of your abilities." He shrugged awkwardly and added, "Not that everyone with special powers here uses magic. I honestly don't know how it works at all; the only special healing powers to be found in my reality involve extremely advanced beings."
Standing up (he had been sitting on another piece of furniture in the room while they waited), the archeologist gave her a considering look. "I don't want to press you too hard here. You need sleep; if you don't feel up to telling me about it right now, we should wait until you've rested more. I'd like to hang around here while you rest," he grinned in a friendly manner, "for my own piece of mind."
Daniel looked his white-haired friend in the eyes and said, fully serious, yet still with that quiet undercurrent of concern. "Whatever you want to tell me, you have my word it will stay secret. It's the least I can do for a friend." A small smile worked onto his mouth as he finished talking.

"Hmm. What strange slang," she replied simply, looking amused.
Kida listened intently to his explanation, eyes narrowed in thought. "I know not. Perhaps it is a combination of those." She closed her eyes a moment as she continued. "Perhaps it is time myself and Sora finally meet." Indeed, it seemed there was more to discuss than just the world surrounding them.
The woman chuckled weakly. "If you must. It is true I cannot get get up to lock the door behind you." Again, the social stigmas that would normally have left her protesting were absent.
The look of concern from Daniel was mirrored in Kida's visage. Though she trusted Daniel as a friend, she did not know yet if she could potentially trust him with the future of her people. "...We shall see when and if that day comes. But I appreciate your promise more than you may ever know."
