Omission Of The World [OPEN]

Mar 23, 2009 09:25

Characters: Aya Brea, and anyone (but not limited to) who responded to this and this entry, but for the most part OPEN.
Content: Aya Brea calls together a conference to discuss the current state of affairs of the city, her speculations of the SC57 code, and some theories that have developed since the mysterious CFP contact.
Location: One Police Plaza.
Time of day: We’ll assume this takes place on Friday morning, since it’s going to be drawn out.
Warnings: Even more conspiracy theories.

[ ooc: This is a conference for a reason. Unlike the speeches, once Aya has said her piece it will be open for discussion from the other characters. I would ask, to avoid confusion and just be overall organized, that replies to Aya’s speech be in separate threads, unless if one character is adding to another. ]

Public speaking had never been Aya’s thing. As a police officer, she had attended press conferences, which even then she wasn’t exactly the most ideal role-model for. Nothing more than that. She wasn’t even much of a leader. Always beforehand she had been the one to go off on her own, break orders... and now, more often than most, she started to find herself being the one giving them. Taking charge. Cleaning up after everyone’s messes.

With all that she had seen, there was so much of it to clean up. Six months had gone by and the city was still a mess. Buildings were destroyed. People were getting bitten, getting hurt. There was no law, no order, no control over the people. There were civil wars going on among each other. Attacks, attempts of murder.

To Aya, Manhattan hadn’t changed a whole lot. It was also no wonder why people had returned with nothing but skepticism when the precinct had first unearthed. But the way things were going, they were on the right track.

Aya would like to think they were on the right track.

After arresting that white-haired man the other day, presumably a Sephiroth-or some strange name like that-Aya hadn’t allowed herself much time to rest. On top of that, having called over those she needed over the network... Vanessa, Mac, Mark, Harry Mason... All opinions she had valued, and all contributed something to the gathering this Friday morning. Even if she did have the time, she didn’t think she would be able to rest.

Sleep came and went. Aya nodded in and out of rest while she remained there, slouched in the comfortable office chair with her arms crossed over her chest. Never one for formalities, she dressed in the usual white T-shirt and jeans with a black, leather jacket. Nothing fancy, nothing that would distract others from the main point. The way she looked, though, all the work had been wearing her down.

If she kept this up for much longer, Eve would start to notice, and Aya didn’t want to cause the little girl undue stress and worry. Worrying in a time like this would be wasteful.

While waiting, Aya was catching up on some lost sleep in the wee hours of the morning. The conference was all ready. Plenty of chairs were set around a round table, and some spares if more showed up. Along with an overhead projector that she had, with the help of Mark Cohen, had set up. He was a tech guy, after all, and though Aya wasn’t familiar with the technical aspects of these things, she was not above asking for assistance. In a way, he was a little like her old partner at MIST, Pierce, which Aya had a fondness to.

Nearby was a room, door opened and a light shined through. Aya didn’t know how long this was going to take, so she took the initiative to prepare plenty of coffee and some snacks for those who might be hungry. At this hour in the day, it helped to have a line of food and drinks while they sit and listened.

Planning ahead was key. Now it was all a matter of people coming together. Judging by the reaction on the network, it seemed likely. Aya Brea, however, was clearly the first one there. It was still fairly early, too, and she didn’t expect many to show up yet. Really, she hadn’t planned the conference for another hour and a half after the scheduled time.

It was a matter of knowing who you’re speaking to. People are always going to be late. Aya would have been foolish to think punctuality was going to be a factor for everyone, especially when those were skeptical about her own abilities.

Admittedly, Aya wasn’t around during the main investigation of this Great Big Mystery. She’d had her own problems. Like surviving. But between returning to some kind of remains of civilization, these people, the messages sent through the remains of the network that routed all of Manhattan...

Too suspicious.

The theories they had brought together the other day... suspicious.

Then there was the CFP contact over the network.

Time would tell. All there was to do now was for Aya to sit, and wait. Surely the nodding in and out of sleep would be taken care of once people showed up. Then they could get started. Or start getting started.
