"The Man" The old building was barely recognizable, a rock-dust hulk whose skeleton was agonizingly twisted by the arrival of another monster. Steel bent this way and that, and the ground floor's maze of impromptu walls made even walking around a task more for an explorer than a tourist. Despite the multitude of holes all around, somehow the roof was spared much of it, and the place was blanketed with shadows amplified by the early-morning gloom. Dawn was some time away.
Listen, Fiend!
And proving the old saying correct, Naoki's shadowed body grew darker still.
Foul demon whose soul is tainted with darkness!
He had chosen this place because it was almost ideal for his purpose here. The maze of walls, the shadows all around, the enclosed and echo-prone space, and the distance between the Amsterdam Court Hotel and the Bryant Park Hotel were all excellent. He'd also come early, to prepare.
Listen, and tremble in fear!
Zero was a nice ally to have around.
I am Metatron!
Now, he waited, watching carefully all around and across the way for the sign of his adversary.
I am one with God!
The clues given by his attitude were telling. He was arrogant. Condescending. Utterly convinced of his superiority to anything. That would give Naoki the edge. Such an attitude, however, didn't always come unearned. His time healing him had given him more clues. He was fit. His eyes were sharp, even dulled by whatever poison had afflicted him. His hands were calloused by a sword. Those meant that Naoki would have to be careful. Either way, this wouldn't be an easy fight.
By his will, I shall destroy you!
He smirked. That's just how he wanted it.
