Raiel was antsy. There hadn't been a day yet that he hadn't gone out into the city at least briefly. After spending two months laid up in bed recovering from an injury back home, the idea of doing it again here was completely unappealing. Even if he was ungodly tired (he had to do something about this bite, probably), lacking the strength to lug his piano around, he needed to go somewhere.

So he'd picked Kuja. Less than an hour after Garnet had left, Raiel had gone over to Kuja's room and asked him to come out wandering with him. Like Kuja was a great choice. But just having somebody else with him made him feel vaguely safer about going out without his piano (even if Kuja would be completely useless in a fight).

The mission, actually, was to look for another piano. He was getting one for Garnet, eventually, and finding it was the first step. So, there they were. Raiel and Kuja, roaming the streets in search of instruments.

Kuja already knew where a lot of music stores were, --thanks to a little experiment with musical instruments that, if you asked him, had never taken place at all, thank you very much-- but he didn't want Raiel to know he knew.

So, in classic style, he was overdoing it.

"Honestly, Raiel, I don't understand a word you're talking about. What in the world is a piano?"

Voices. People. They were so much louder here, but still never had anything interesting to say.

They were down the street from her, and she slowly blinked at them as the distance closed. Her gait didn't slow. They weren't anything worth caring about, worth noting beyond a glance. But she hadn't got to do things properly for a while.

So maybe it wasn't first and foremost of her goals. But should they get too close. Not so much "in her way" as "easy reach." And she kept walking towards them, her new little friend gripped in hand.

He didn't even notice the girl approaching. Maybe if he were in a better state he might've caught sight of her, at least noted her presence, maybe even said something. But he was too busy concentrating on the conversation with Kuja and his mind was not particularly up to handling more than one train of thought at the moment.

"What the hell, Kuja, are you stupid?" (You see now how pressing the conversation was.) "Just because I'm not carrying mine today you just forget what a piano is completely?"

Since he'd gotten to Manhattan, Luffy hadn't really had anything resembling a "routine". He walked around the city, helped people where he was needed, got food from the supply centers, beat up crabs when they bugged people (which they did a lot), and sometimes ran into people who were new to the city and explained things to them (...unbeknown to him, probably just worsening their confusion, as he wasn't very....good at the explanation).

At the moment, he was just walking through the city, arms swinging merrily as he hummed a jolly tune. His eyes darted to and fro occasionally as he searched for any crabs that may or may not have the nerve to wander out, but he didn't see any. Maybe today he wouldn't be attacked by anything!

Cheery, bouncy, happy tune. Tralala. Well that was annoying.

She turned a street corner and found the source. An obnoxious individual, prancing around like that. Dressed all bright and goofy like a kid. Like life was some kind of joke.

Hnn. Bad enough timing for him.

She did not walk up behind him quickly, she did not try to be sneaky. She walked at a perfectly normal pace. And without a word, without a pause or even a blink, Madotsuki drove her knife up at his shoulderblade.

"WHOA!" Luffy yelled as his torso darted to the side and spun in a way that shouldn't have been possible, the knife just barely missing his arm. There weren't a lot of things that could hurt Luffy, but really sharp knives were pretty high up on the list.

Leaping backwards a bit, his feet skidded on the ground, and his eyes shot downwards. Crabs, he was used to. Little girls with knives who tried to stab him out of nowhere? Not so much!

"What the hell was that for!?" He demanded.

Speedy. Well, most figments here were different than usual, the dodging was no real surprise. She was out of practice, after all. Madotsuki narrowed her eyes. She didn't like resistance.

She did not respond to the question. She showed no sign of even hearing it. Instead, she took a sudden, quick step to close the distance he'd put between them and swiped at him again, with more force this time, clear intent.
