"So, let me make sure I understand the situation correctly." Simon's head was pounding, his pulse racing and his body perspiring--all signs that he had just run a long distance without stopping (which he didn't recall) or that he was about to be sick. He was pretty certain it was the latter. "I'm now trapped in this city on Earth-That-Was, I've somehow managed to go back in time, it's an island and therefore there's no way of getting off it, despite, of course, that even in this era there are aircraft and watercraft that should make escape entirely possible, and there is a very...large...animal on this island with us."

"That about sums it," the blonde-haired girl said, nodding.

"Well. That's not at all what I wanted to hear...or expected to hear...but I appreciate the summary of events." Simon took another look around, shook his head, and chose a direction to start walking. Really, if what the young woman said was true, he might as well just stand there until the discovery of interstellar space flight, but that wouldn't feel productive. He also has a feeling it would drive him mad, wondering how River was faring without him. Of course, that would probably drive him mad no matter what he did.

"You could try using the network to see if anyone you know is here too," the blonde-haired girl called after him helpfully.

He hesitated, glancing back. "Why would anyone I know be here?"

The girl shrugged. "You're here, aren't you? It's just how things work. Most people find one or two friends."

If that was true, might River be here as well? "Thank you," he told the girl sincerely, and strode away with new purpose. At least he knew what he should be doing now. Find a terminal, find River, if she was here, and find a way off of the island. He'd achieved the impossible before.

...Of course, before, he'd never had to contend with the sudden appearance of a trio of very ugly, clearly feral arthropods. The words that emerged from his mouth at that moment would have made Kaylee proud.
