Truth be told, the idea of Ashley actually going out to check on someone she cared about was completely crazy. As she got closer to ABC Auto, the area started to look more and more familiar. A flash in her mind of pounding her fists against a wall made of black magic. A shiver ran down her spine and she froze in her tracks.
No, she told herself. You need to do this. It doesn't matter that Raven's there. It didn't. Because even though Terra didn't know the whole story, Link's reaction was enough to bring back memories. Horrible memories of her friends being trapped. The people she cared about crushed under rubble. And she couldn't do anything to help them, because it was all her fault. All the good she tried to do ended the same way.
The girl without a name walked into the building unannounced. By the time she got inside, she was on the brink of tears herself. Why was she doing this? Why was she getting so close to revealing something about herself that she never wanted anyone to ever know? Was it because that's what heroes did? Heroes did the things that scared them the most?
She swallowed hard and felt it sink, heavy and thick, into her stomach. She wiped the beginnings of tears from her eyes, a telltale sniffle the punctuation. She'd just have to lie about that when the time came. One deep breath followed another until she was ready. "Link!" she yelled out into the building, hearing her voice echo back at her until it was gone. "Where are you, Link?"
