It was far too cold tonight.

At least it was for someone missing the entire front of their shirt. Being a living thing brought with it so many burdens that Parano almost wished he’d just ceased to exist as he should have. Hunger, exhaustion, pain, the numbness seeping into his limbs from the cold; it was all so troublesome. Though he supposed the fact he could now act on his own free will and be rid of the restrictions existing as nothing more than a computer program came with evened it out. Still, he was cold now and currently losing the feeling in his arms and legs. He’d only traveled four blocks from his cozy little home too. At this rate, he’d never survive the long walk. Especially not with the half-full garbage bag he had slung over his shoulder slowing him down. Grumbling, he let the bag slide off his shoulder, down his back, and hit the cement with a small splat.

Oh damn it.

He’d forgotten about a certain fragile content of the bag. Luckily, he had the sense to wrap it in another bag before tossing it in with the other very important items. So what if it had gotten a little damaged? At least it was contained and hadn’t stained the other goodies.

Pushing that out of his mind, he scanned the area carefully. He needed something to cover himself with and now. The numbness was spreading and it wouldn’t be long before it swallowed him up completely. Freezing to death wasn’t high on his to-do list. At least not until after tonight’s events unfolded. The mere thought of what was about to go down brought a big goofy smile to his reddened face. But he could be giddy over that later. Right now finding a source of warmth was first priority.

But every store front his eyes laid upon stood dark and empty. He grabbed the bag and dragged it along behind him as he made his way down the street, looking for at least one building that hadn’t already been raided of its goods. It was beginning to look more and more hopeless with every passing building. Worry started bubbling up inside him. Time was running out. If he wanted to make it to his destination in time, he needed to find something now. If he couldn’t find it and wanted to survive the night, he’d have to turn back soon. Whatever patience he had within him was worn down to a single thread. Tonight was happening. He’d be sure of it. Even if it meant getting frostbite in the process, tonight would go as planned.

And then, a fuzzy, spotted miracle happened. There in the very front of a store not all that different than the one Parano had taken up residence in stood a mannequin wearing a thick, furry leopard print coat. His face lit up and he literally jumped for joy before rushing over to it, leaving the bag behind. Though the door was probably unlocked, the boy did not hesitate in picking up a stray rock and chucking it through the window, shattering the large glass window separating him from his new found coat. With that out of the way, he attempted to pull it off the mannequin. This proved to be a little more difficult that it should have been. The coat wouldn’t just slide off due to the fact the thing had arms. Growling, he kicked it over which accomplished nothing really but getting a dirty footprint on the front of the coat. Crouching down, he examined it closely. A zipper ran down the front while a belt secured the clothing tightly to the mannequin’s waist. Grumbling, Parano undid the belt and pulled the zipper down. The coat then easily slid off. Frustration quickly faded to contentment as he threw the coat on over himself and re-zipped the front.

He looked absolutely ridiculous. Aesthetic appeal did not matter here though. All that concerned him was whether or not it would keep out the cold. And so far, it seemed to do just that.

Onward then.

He retrieved his bag and continued on down the road.

He’d already spent quite enough time here. And it wasn’t polite to keep people waiting. Birdman should be at the apartment building by now. The two had agreed to meet there before dropping in on Dannyboy for a surprise visit. The other Galerian had listed off a few particular items for him to bring with, all of which he was surprised to find right in the store he’d turned into his home. He had a vague idea of what they were for and why bringing them with would result in fun times for all but not so much Dannyboy.

He was not so sure how meeting with Birdman would go though. His behavior over the network left Parano feeling irritated and even a bit uneasy. But if anything went wrong, he knew he could hold his own against the man. At least that’s what he’d been telling himself. The truth of the matter was, he had no idea what to expect from Birdman. Rita had proven herself to be more than a match for him while Rion had simply gotten lucky. The two were more refined creations, so Birdman couldn’t be much stronger. Could he?

He’d be on his guard. That was for certain.
