Moving was hard. Speaking was hard. Even writing was hard, but Fran Madaraki, flat in her bed and her eyes practically glazed over, would not be deterred. Biology would not stand in the way of science, and especially not something of this magnitude. For nearly five weeks, she had studied herself, the effects the stitched-up (but still bleeding) crab bite on her arm had had on her. She had her computer on a moving cart at the side of her bed, voice recording software a keystroke from being activated. But even if she was barely comprehensible and her recordings turned out to be useless, she always had her memories.
And she would soon have a collaborator! That... oh, that fellow whose name she couldn't remember. He would be here soon. She could share her findings with him! How excellent!
She coughed, tasting copper. Her stomach growled for the hundredth time today.
Maybe science could wait for now.
