Fran seemed all too eager to finally encounter the monster close up with very little at personal risk. She had brought with her a small bag full of plastic bags and small flasks, as well as a fairly clean shard of metal that she could use for scrapings if so inclined.

Best to start surveying the monster up close. She didn't have a glove, but if the parasites had been able to latch onto the creature without problems, Fran barely thought one necessary when she reached out and touched the skin of one of her legs.

The skin felt much like dolphin skin: cold, hard, rubber, and very solid.

Fascinating. No wonder she had been so resilient. Skin like that would serve as natural armor. She had probably come from the deep, or at least deeper than most... Fran had never felt skin like that on any land animals. A scraping wouldn't work; that much was certain.

The interesting bits, though, were further up on the body; Fran wasted no time in bringing herself to Clover's head, and specifically, next to the red sacs. She was a bit more reluctant to touch those, but went on regardless.

The skin here was much softer and more yielding than the rest of the body, although still quite thick. It felt a little like leather.

Equally fascinating! But there was very little she could do with that tiny little knife she kept on her. It didn't take someone of her incredible intellect to figure that out. Oh well! She could draw conclusions from what she knew. Probably some sort of breathing apparatus. Modified gills? That seemed a smart enough guess for now.

Ah, and now for the centerpiece of the monster's terror. The teeth. Just in case, Fran would keep her hands away from those. But just looking could also provide some very, very important information.

Her guess was correct, but in the wrong area of the body. There were gills, but hidden beneath the smaller forearms, and therefore impossible to see from this point.

The monster's most obvious teeth were huge; nearly twice as tall as a grown man. Surrounding these were large teeth, but only about five feet long, arranged haphazardly. Lining the inside of the mouth were rows of smaller teeth, much in the manner of a shark, that were about four to six inches long each. Those could possibly be removed, with effort. All looked very sharp.

The grin that crossed Fran's lips would have split her head even if her lower jaw weren't stitched on. The size -- the power! No wonder the monster was so feared. Or, no! She had not been feared enough! If anyone had even the slightest idea of what being caught in this beast's jaws would do; if anyone knew how grotesquely shredded they would be, they would have had so much more to fear. They would have prayed to be crushed.

Fantastic.

Still, as much as she loved staring down the creature's teeth, it did make Fran feel only slightly wary. If it were possible to remove one of those, it would make a brilliant weapon. But she would have to come back for that. With better, more appropriate supplies. Until then, she would have to leave it alone. And with most of the information she could obtain already gotten, she left analysis of the body for a moment and decided to look around to see if anyone else had decided to join her in a similarly-minded endeavor.
