The morning sun crept in through Riku’s window. For once the shade wasn’t down. Copper sunlight inched across the bed to tap Riku on the shoulder, who began to stir. A hand reached for the silent alarm clock, fumbling around a moment before shutting it off long before the alarm even sounded. He rolled out of bed and stretched. Half smile crossing his face, he looked out at the sunrise and Bryant Park before getting dressed.
He’d get to visit a good friend later today.
. . .
Riku came tromping down the many flights of stairs in an excited hurry. When he nearly reached the landing of the floor he wanted he jumped for it, intentionally sliding on sock feet into the main area of the floor. He held out his hands for balance, and did very well doing so despite the bookbag he wore.
He trotted his way to the kitchen of the Koi restaurant and began to prepare for breakfast. A quick look in the fridge told him there was still uncooked bacon and plenty of eggs. Riku shrugged a little and pulled some of it out along with some cooking spray and a large pan. He knew he wanted at least two fried eggs for himself. Kairi was usually up early, and she’d probably only want one. If anyone else came out he’d just throw another egg into the pan. Either way, it made sense to cook all the bacon now. Whatever was leftover from breakfast could be put on sandwiches or saved for tomorrow.
All the while he was doing this, Riku bobbed his head to the tune he hummed, listening to music playing only in his head.
