Location: Near the U.N. building.
Time of day: Evening, after Mommy has been and gone.
Warnings: Guys, there's a whale over here. D: And possibly crabs, who knows.
It wasn't at all like a city. Maybe if cities shed their skin, this was what would be left.
Jaster kept his eyes turned skyward as he walked the street, only glancing down to avoid tripping over the debris. The darkened shells of skyscrapers stretched on as far as he could see, blocking out the sunlight. Here, half the windows were shattered; there, one was scarred with what almost looked like claw marks; and that one stood at a precarious angle, almost swaying in the breeze.
What had happened here?
It had only been a few minutes since he woke up here, alone - his friends were nowhere to be found, and neither was the Dorgenark. It would have made slightly more sense to find himself on a strange planet if they'd crash-landed, but... he didn't think he'd even been aboard. No, he'd been....
.... or had that really happened? In retrospect, it was so surreal...
But one way or another, he was here, wherever that was, alone and unarmed. How his sword and gun had disappeared off him made even less sense. It wasn't safe to go around empty-handed, especially in a run-down place like this. He could only guess the beasts must be having a field day among the ruins.
He hadn't ruled out the possibility that the place was still occupied, though, and it was that that kept him searching. Anyone he could find would be better than nobody at all. His best guess was that they'd have set up near water, if there was any. And the water he found soon enough, but for a while he walked along the riverfront without finding any signs of habitation.
In fact, the first really interesting thing he found was... a dead animal.
A really big dead animal.
Just lying there, half propped against a damaged building.
Morbid curiosity forced him in closer. He couldn't immediately identify what kind of animal it was, even as he got a better look at it. Whatever it was, it sure stank.
"What the hell..." he murmured, and that was the best evaluation he could provide right now.
