This is turning out to be a good day. Evey thought, as she walked out of the New York Library carrying a small bag of books over her shoulder. At home she had been a avid reader, but having found herself in a place where books weren't banned for reasons unknown, she had become more so, holing herself up in various rooms of the museum in order to read. She was making trips to the library weekly in order to find new things to read, and to take others back. She couldn't deprive anyone else of the books she read.
A sound distracted her, something sounding slightly like nails clicking on a hard surface. Turning towards the alley the sound came from, she didn't see anything. She shrugged and continued walking towards her destination. About a block later, she heard the sound again, but this time, coming from behind her. Thinking for a second, she ducked through the line of trees to her right, she found herself in an open area...a park apparently. Spinning around, she saw a group of the things she really hadn't wanted to see.
A small group of the crab creatures had been following her...the source of the sound she had been hearing for a few blocks. There looked to be four of them, four more than she had ever wanted to be staring down in her lifetime. One, a very stupid one, lunged at her, and she managed to hit it with the bag of books she had. Luckily, she had decided to get a couple of big hardback books this trip. That one, while not going down completely, was out of commission for a while at least.
Backing up a few steps and watching as two more decided to come at her, Evey grabbed the machete she kept attached to her waist out, and held it pointed at the two crabs. One hesitated, while the other lunged, giving her room, and time, to get the knife through a weak spot and cause it to fall to the ground, getting her drenched in a fine gross liquid. She was starting to get tired at this point, and decided that instead of facing down the other two, she would just run.
Turning, she began sprinting for the other side of the park, hoping to reach it, and a building, before the crabs got to her. But, in her fear, she managed to trip over a piece of something, probably from a fallen building. When she looked to see what it was, she noticed that it was a piece of pipe. Great, why wasn't it a weap....wait. She thought, then grabbed it, and swung up at the crab closing in on her, hitting it.
Gasping to catch her breath, she moved to stand up, and felt pain shooting through her ankle. Looking down, she screamed a bit, seeing a crab right next to her leg, claws dug into her skin. Not caring, she kicked it away, feeling more of the skin on her ankle rip from the scratch. Realizing that she was somewhat close to buildings at this point, she limped/ran across the street and into a cafe, hopefully with internet access. She shoved the doors closed, and pushed a couple of chairs in front of it, hoping to keep the crabs at bay.
Limping a few more steps, Evey found a chair and desk with a computer a few steps into the office. Sitting, she turned the computer on, and then leaned down to inspect her ankle. It was slightly swollen from the fall, and still bleeding from the scratch, but it didn't look too bad. Now, all she could hope for was some help getting out of the place.
At least they didn't bite me, that would have been worlds worse.
