If she were to be perfectly honest with herself, Celes had no idea why she had asked Rikku to come exploring with her. On the one hand, she knew she would like the company and probably would need it, but on the other hand, she preferred to work alone. She was a loner by nature, especially after all the shit had gone down with Kefka. She didn't know who else had survived or if they would even want anything to do with her. Sure, she had tried to kill Kefka herself while they were all up on that floating continent, but really... that was a year ago. Who knew how they felt now? Who knew what had happened while she had been asleep? So much could have gone wrong.
Celes stopped on her trek somewhere near Madison Square Garden and looked around, her swords gripped tightly in each hand. She didn't know which of her friends still lived, nor did she know where they were. Something inside her knew she had to make a new life for herself, no matter how difficult that might prove. At least no one here knew of the infamous General Celes, so they wouldn't go running at the sight of her or the sound of her name. That made her feel a little bit better at the very least. She really could start out anew, even with the burdens of her past still weighing heavily on her heart. She missed everyone, though she had no way to know if they missed her or not.
What did it matter, honestly? With a sigh, Celes turned north and waited for Rikku to arrive from whichever direction she was coming from.
